As a 3rd generation social services worker, I often joke that I was born into this field. I cannot imagine myself in any other profession. This is all I have ever wanted to do. With that being said, I was also born into a society that often refuses to accept the necessity of therapy, especially for men and people of color.
In 20 years of being in this field, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. I have worked: in intensive outpatient, high acuity inpatient, in the Department of Corrections, and with DCFS. This blend of experiences has helped me form an approach that I believe benefits everyone regardless of their situation.
I live my life by a quote from the Dalai Lama: “With realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can change the world.” This means that often people already possess the ability to change their life for the better, sometimes they just need someone to help them discover that ability. That’s where I come in.
