The therapist-client relationship is like nothing else in the world. It is meant to be unconditional, non-judgemental, safe and heavily boundaried. As a therapist, I take a very direct and honest approach to this work. The relief and change you are looking for is going to require you to deeply invest in this process. It might be overwhelming and it might also be painful at times.

I have always been interested in people, their strengths, goals, and utilizing personal opportunities. What these are, exactly, is not always clear. I am open-minded and direct, which is how I would describe my work method. Through reflection and questioning, I will give back what I see in terms of behavior, attitude, emotions, or thoughts. I believe that this leads to higher self-knowledge, but can be difficult to confront at the same time. I try to look at personal challenges with an open, supportive, creative, and honest approach to best support your progress.

We all seek increased meaning, along with deeper purpose and stronger connections. But change can be hard! When pain or fear predominate, we are unable to tolerate stress or to be spontaneous. Together, we will address self-limitations like shame, people-pleasing, or perfectionism. I look forward to working with individuals facing life transitions including grief and loss, divorce, marriage, career change, maintaining recovery, gender assignment exploration or those seeking deeper meaning.

I strive to provide compassionate care to anyone who wishes to be in therapy. Everyone is deserving of care and support throughout their lives, and I want to be a part of your support system. I enjoy working with people from all different backgrounds, individuals, and couples, but as a queer person, I particularly enjoy working with queer people. I look at the world through the lens of intersectional feminism as well as anti-racism and queer theory, which is reflected in my therapeutic practice. I am in the process of earning my certificate in Gender Affirming Care in order to provide the best care that I can for all of my clients.

We seek out therapy when we are looking for a change. It might be that coping which once worked no longer does, that there is a new stressor in our life, or that an old wound is still impacting us. Therapy can be helpful in getting unstuck when we are struggling to envision the next step forward. As a trauma-informed therapist, I approach my work with the belief that compassion, trust, and authenticity are fundamental for positive change. I view therapy as a collaborative process, one where therapist and client work together to determine goals, identify needs, and outline a path forward.

First, I want to thank you for taking a brave, loving next step toward growth and healing. I’m a queer therapist working with individuals and couples, wanting to meet you where you are, knowing that therapy is an investment and not always for everyone. Too many of us can get stuck depending on the provisions of an individualized and unjust mental healthcare system that often leaves us needing more care, paying more money, and lacking trust to meet our needs and forge supportive relationships. I take it seriously that you're here, in the middle of whatever you are going through, looking for support, so let's start there.

The quality of our relationships has a big impact on the quality of our lives, and that can feel overwhelming. These human connections, between romantic partners, friends, family members, and coworkers, have the power to transform our lives. Sometimes, we need help to manage transitions, move through cycles of connection and disconnection or conduct pulse checks with one another. I want to meet you where you are at and help you discover where you want to go as you live through your relationships and life changes. Together, we will work to strengthen relational intelligence, communication, connection and your motivation to change.

I work with those who struggle with anger. Often times the anger is brought on by unmet expectations and merely a symptom of deeper issues under the surface. It's my job to metaphorically stand in a place you can not see, and point you in the right direction as to the cause of what is contributing to the anger. By doing so, you can receive insight that will enrich your life and change it for the better.

There comes a time when we are forced to meet ourselves, hard as we might try to avoid it. It can happen for different reasons and during different life stages. Maybe you’re experiencing a big change that’s bringing everything up all at once, or perhaps you’re realizing the mask you’ve been wearing doesn’t quite fit right anymore. What you’ve always done is no longer working for you, and the new things you’ve tried so far aren't cutting it. And while you feel ready for change, the path forward feels messy, confusing, and overwhelming.

If you are here that means you are probably seeking support for something in your life that feels difficult, overwhelming, confusing, or painful. My work is to offer you a safe, kind, and accepting space for you to further explore your internal and external realities. Together we will be curious about your unique life experience, the impact of your experience, the struggles and conflicts you may be facing, and what you need to thrive. I believe therapy is the process of uncovering who you were meant to be before the world told you who you should be and wounded you with its expectations and cruelty.

Feelings of loneliness, depression, and isolation are often a surprise when we are surrounded by people at work, home, and in social connections. In over 20 years of practice, I have helped adults and couples to identify and resolve the issues that are obstacles to creating more fulfilling lives and relationships. I bring the qualities of warmth and connection, honesty, sensitivity, creativity, flexibility, humor, clarity and openmindedness, and interactive exchange to sessions. Individual, couples, and group therapy are included in my practice.

Whatever you are going through, you shouldn't have to go through it alone. Sometimes, we encounter barriers that can keep us from living the joyous life we deserve. Maybe those barriers include: depression, anxiety, or trauma reactions. Perhaps you need help on building your skills, strengths, resiliency, and emotional awareness to cope with the various challenges throughout life. Or, maybe you want the tools to align your life with your values and vision. Even though painful, difficult experiences are inevitable, that does not mean we can't live our best lives, or be our most authentic and fulfilled selves.

Due to my social work background, I approach therapy with one initial goal: to meet someone where they’re at. This means utilizing the unique strengths, experiences, and identities inherent within each person to help them live fuller, happier, more meaningful lives. All work done in therapy is built on a true collaboration, where a client can present themselves as they are and use tools presented by the therapist to gently challenge them, and help them navigate whatever they’re struggling with. My clients are mainly individuals experiencing depression, difficult life changes, anxiety, and trauma.

Life is complicated and we are all products of our upbringing, life experiences, and personal coping mechanisms. We are aware of some of these mechanisms and others, we are not. Whether it is a temporary set-back or a chronic condition, helping to uncover what lays beyond our consciousness and how that affects our thoughts, feelings, and behavior is a process that will lead to greater well-being, increased self-awareness, and fulfilling personal potential. I will work to understand your worldview, current constraints, existing resources and strengths, and apply an integrative theoretical approach.

You're struggling with past traumas. Maybe you don't even realize that a lot of your frustration, anxiety and depression and current struggles are linked to past traumas. It can be overwhelming dealing with intense emotions and identify the why behind it to change your life. I would love to work with you and address some of the emotions and struggles that you have been dealing with. Have there been some past events in your life that have fundamentally changed you as a person?

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
