There are so many different reasons that parents seek support for their children, and choosing a therapist is a very personal decision: Experience, philosophy, a recommendation from a friend, all go into the decision. But, usually, its just a personal connection. In the end, finding the right therapist is about making a connection that feels good and that matches your families personality. I am a hands on, goal oriented person. I will help to identify the problem, and provide the support and help needed to empower you, as the parent, to help your child.
My specialty is working with children and parents. I think that working with parents is as important as the therapy with the child and so I do a lot of parenting work, both individually and in small groups. I am a cognitive behavioral therapist so my treatment model is to be goal oriented and directive.
In addition, I also consult with schools and teachers to help children to succeed in the classroom. I run small parenting support groups as well as a mindfulness group for parents. Lastly, I am also interested in mindfulness and meditation and often integrate this into my practice, as needed.

Annie Zimmerli's Groups

Mindfulness and Inner Resilience

This is a group for adults, typically parents, who want to gain a better understanding of what mindfulness is and how it can help them in their day to day lives. It is a combination of hands on skill building and experiential, as the group members share their experiences and struggles. Group dates to be decided. Each group meets monthly for 2-2.5 hours.

More about this group

Parent Support Group

This group meets to provide support to parents in areas and situations that are specific to their kids ages and needs. Groups can be created around a common age or theme (eg-divorce, loss) and are typically 4-5 parents per group. We meet for 1.25 hours every 2-3 weeks depending upon the groups decision. We discuss everything from behaviors, limit setting, development, managing school or peer issues, etc. It is very open ended. The beauty of these types of group are that parents provide support and ideas for each other while the group leader can give more specific advice. Dates/times TBD
