As a parent, you might have some concerns about your adolescent. They may be having a hard time making and keeping relationships with positive peers. They may be engaging in conflict with you about academics and rules in your home. The may not be able to regulate their negative emotions in a healthy way. Your attempts to provide advice and support may not seem like enough.
In my 20 years of working with adolescents, I have learned that the most effective treatment includes them working with their peers. When teens are struggling, they feel more understood by their peers and are more likely to seek advice and support from them than from parents and other adults. Group along with individual, family therapy is most effective.
Walk and Talk therapy combines traditional talk therapy with walking outside in nature with the therapist. Out in nature, your teen can stay present in the moment Walk and Talk Therapy might be right for if: you are uncomfortable sitting in an office staring at a therapist for an hour; if you would rather be moving than sitting still, or if you enjoy nature.
