Our minds are really good at shuttling between past and future, driven by our fears and desires, memories and imagination. This disconnection with our present reality has become even more severe with the advent of smartphones, the high levels of stress in our modern day lives, and endemic psychological trauma in our communities.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is based on mindful living. ACT asks us to observe the circumstances in our lives to experience what is happening in the present and then to make a conscious commitment towards change.
Couples Counseling Approach
It is my belief that couples counseling requires a good amount of time in session and out of session to begin to communicate in ways that promote emotional intimacy. I am trained in The Gottman Method, but also EFT (emotion focused therapy) and sex therapy. These three methods will promote improved emotional and sexual intimacy.
