I believe that God is at the center of our existence, and healing requires aligning our hearts and minds toward God. Many of the Muslims I speak to struggle to connect their faith with their cultural and personal identity. Growing up with emotionally immature parents and an authoritarian image of God has left them feeling disconnected from faith, family, and their authentic self. My clients know I've been there. For them, it is refreshing to talk to an imperfect human who gets it, and knows how to overcome the struggles they currently face.
Many clients have experienced complex traumas in a childhood that was anything from abusive and neglectful to less than nurturing, and this continues to impact them socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Complex problems require complex solutions and a culturally competent professional who dares to think differently.
