Mental health symptoms like depression, anxiety, anger, stress, etc., are just that- symptoms! These symptoms are our bodies way of telling us "something's not right" or "there needs to be a change here." It is imperative that we are mindful in listening to our bodies, and intentionally work to meet our emotional needs. In therapy, we dedicate time to build insight, strengthen more compassionate mindsets, and learn coping skills which regulate our bodies.

I have professional experience working with concerns relating to depression, anxiety, emotion regulation, anger, grief, and trauma.
We all have experiences that shape us into who we are as a person, how we feel, what we think, etc. Often times these experiences can leave us with questions, doubt, and a desire to further explore ourselves and find answers to live a more fulfilling life. As your Therapist, my goal is to meet you where you are and support you in a way that allows you to explore these challenging thoughts and experiences in a safe and effective way. Together, we can identify your strengths and use this as a guide to your treatment success.

In a world which can pull a person away from themselves, it is of vital importance to get back into a healthy and honest relationship with yourself. When this alignment happens within self, one tends to find inner balance and life begins to fall into place. I believe that by providing an environment of listening, empathy, non-judgement and validation, a person can get in touch with who they are, who they want to be, how they feel, and what they think and believe. This is where healing begins. I will support you as you rediscover an empowered version of yourself and encourage you in what you need and want in life.

I work with individuals who are navigating difficult seasons of life, seeking support in processing painful events and challenges and in finding the best next steps to take. I assist clients with adjustment to stressors and life transitions, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, grief and loss, self-criticism, shame and self-doubt. My greatest passion in this work is helping clients to identify their strengths, recognize their own worth and develop a stronger and more compassionate sense of self. In doing this, it becomes easier for clients to process pain, learn new skills and pursue their goals.

Counseling is a journey. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, the opportunity to copilot as we work through the barriers and forge forward in that journey is my motivation. Although it can feel overwhelming and counterproductive to add yet another thing onto our to do list; being intentional with our time and using it to work on oneself and access resources can expedite healing. Thus, it makes sense that when our tank is low and we are faced with endless battles, we would benefit from something extra introduced into our lives.

Healing, personal growth and ultimately flourishing, takes effort. We may find ourselves fighting against not only the outside world but sometimes ourselves. And if you are reading this far, then I want you to celebrate…here and now. Offer yourself gratitude. While we may aspire for worldly success in our relationships, work, or daily routines, attempting to do so without knowing ourselves deeply, healing personal and generational wounds, and feeling empowered, we fall short. That's why with clients of varying, intersecting identities and unique concerns, I prioritize personal/systemic insight, authenticity, and acceptance.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
