I enjoy working with clients who are internally motivated for change. Clients who want to make changes, and are willing to put in the work are the best! I am client centered and solution focused. This allows the client to set their own goals and work at their pace. Often times when clients want to make life changes, or process trauma, they need guide rails and support. I am happy to provide these things.

Every single one of us faces unique problems in life. Understanding yourself and how you relate to the world is a major part of our overall health. Hi, I'm Matt. As a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), my expertise is in reconnecting spouses and family members who genuinely seek to change their relationship. However, I also excel at applying systemic insights to many individual problems, such as anxiety, depression, anger, or low self-esteem. I find the most success with people who've tried everything else, but haven't yet been able to escape the problem they feel stuck with. Systemic insights are evidence based and backed by current research. You don't know it yet, but there's a way in which you and your experiences make sense, and I like it when things make sense.

I can analyze why you have anxiety or anger in life, or distance or even infidelity in relationships.
Suppose you returned home one night to your "empty" house on a corner to find the door smashed open, and sounds of someone inside and things falling on the floor. Afraid, you walk around the corner where your neighbor then tells you she saw smoke coming from your window and the firemen are inside finding the cause. Your attitude toward the intruders completely changes when you understand their purpose. I give clients similar insight about the problems hurting them and their relationships. It's tragic to suffer and to fear solvable problems because you don't understand them.

I guide people in areas of addiction, anger, anxiety, depression and relationships.
I believe my non-judgmental and warm demeanor allows people to feel at ease and more willing to share issues that lead them to seek counsel. While I am trained in counseling theories and techniques, I believe using the Bible as the fundamental guide in exploring the emotions that often paralyze our daily lives and relationships. Self reflection, forgiveness, effective communications, healthy boundaries and expectations all play a role in finding a sense of peace within ourselves and our relationships.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
