Our wounds, losses, and trauma can trap us in painful patterns of avoidance, anger, fear, sadness, guilt, and shame.
Whether you are coming to therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, a life change, or just a general sense of unease, facing these issues can be scary. Healing isn’t easy because it involves confronting our pain and hurts. Healing can also be full of joy, hope, connection, and freedom as we experience new possibilities of being and relating. My approach is warm, relational, and integrative. I strive to offer a space where you can feel safe enough to look inward – to gently and compassionately welcome all parts of yourself with less judgment and shame.

I have been helping others navigate their lives for nearly 35 years. Therapy can help you see from a new vantage point. Expect to resolve and heal distress linked to experiences of your past. Begin to recognize habits that no longer serve you. Practice being clear; responsible with your feelings and ask for what you need. Begin to build and reinforce healthy boundaries with others. Stop giving away your power. Practice thoughtful irritation; ending cycles of distressing anger that lead to shame and self criticism. Be kinder to yourself and practice making better choices. Only you can change your internal response to what is.

Each struggle in life brings an opportunity to uncover conflicts and create healing with a deeper exploration in therapy. I meet people where they are in life and begin treatment there. I have hope that healing can occur in everyone if they have motivation. I use a creative arts, integrative, evidence based model to explore patterns, beliefs, and get to the core so we can rebuild where the healing is needed. With children, I use play therapy and creative arts. I use insight, goals, and strengths to create treatments plans. We re-assess every few months to track progress.

Are you a young adult dealing primarily with anxiety and life transition issues? This could be a recent college graduate starting their first big job, a major transition. I like walking beside them through these transitions and being an additional support. I also like helping people learn breathing techniques to manage anxiety and learn about polyvagal theory and a bottom-up approach. I enjoy working with clients who can articulate their goals, such as managing anxiety better and working on anxiety in different settings.

I work with Individuals of all ages with a variety of Issues from anxiety, stress, work & relationship struggles as well as walking with others through life's changes. My Largest body of experiences comes from working with children. I have over 30 years of experience working with children and families. As a parent, you want what is best for your child, but it's not always easy to know what type of support he or she needs. My therapeutic play/counseling program is a good place to turn to when a child's problems seem overwhelming. I very comfortable working with the neurodivergent population.

Life starts to beat us down and burn us out. We find ourselves frustrated, irritated, and confused how to move forward. Friends and family that we relied on have run out of energy for us. We can't help it, but we're pushing them away. How can we overcome this struggle without losing those closest to us, without losing ourselves? The stress of life: work, school, family and this world at large can sometimes feel overwhelimg, leading to anxiety, mood and relationship problems or drinking and smoking too much.

Stress, worry, anxiety- It sucks. Like an unwelcome guest that just won't leave. It's paralyzing. You find yourself under pressure to make the right decisions and keep it all together all the time. That voice inside your head keeps nagging, "Why can't I just be 'normal' and stop worrying? Why is everything so hard?" You may carry the mental load of the household or feel like there's no time. On the outside, things may seem perfectly fine, but inside, it's a different story. Life feels like an impossible maze with all this self-doubt, constant worry, and the weight of expectations. You know you're capable, but it feels out of reach.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
