I work comfortably with people from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and people within the LGBTQ community. In my practice I see adults, adolescents, and couples. I have a direct, interpersonal style in which I support and assist individuals in meeting their personal goals while helping them to process past and present issues related to trauma, child abuse/neglect, addiction(s), grief and loss, depression, or anxiety that may be interfering with their progress. I approach my clinical practice from a socially conscious perspective, working always to view personal difficulties within the sociocultural context in which we live.
I specialize in working with individuals who are survivors of childhood neglect and abuse, and individuals who have had trauamtic adult experiences. I am able to treat traumatic reactions on a variety of levels including symptom management, emotional processing of the trauma(s), empowerment based strategies, and assistance with healthy relationship formation.
I have extensive training and experience with Medical Model substance abuse counseling as well as an understanding of Harm Reduction models. I have a unique understanding of the overlap between addiction and trauma, particularly for women, and I use a gentle yet effective approach when addressing these complex, sensitive issues.
