Find a healthier you! I believe in the importance of finding healing and empowerment through self-discovery and self-love. I identify deeply with the quote, “Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most meaningful parts of ourselves.”-David Riche. I also recognize the importance of finding a deeper life purpose and connection. I wish to create a therapeutic environment that is supportive, nurturing, and safe: incorporating self-expression, cultivating inner strengths, and working towards personalized goals. I want to help guide you on a compassionate journey promoting lasting and powerful life-long positive change.

In the current world of ongoing and chronic stress, life issues can interfere with anyone's ability to live their life to the fullest. Sometimes these issues are life crises like the death of a loved one, new life phases like parenting and adjusting to a new born, or downsizing when the last child leaves home. Sometimes these issues are related to efforts to manage what feels like overwhelming stress with things like the over use of alcohol, drugs, video games, gambling, eating, anger or other less productive behaviors. Depression, anxiety, sleep issues and worry can all result from the experience of daily life. Counseling can help.

Making the first step towards counseling shows courage and commitment to your wellbeing, but can also create feelings of vulnerability. I believe finding a counselor you genuinely connect with and trust is key for making progress on your goals. My priority is honoring and empowering you to steer our work. You may carry feelings of hesitation, fear, sadness, or just sheer exhaustion in your day-to-day. Together, we can tune into what those look like for you. I specialize in counseling adults in early and middle adulthood struggling with anxiety, depression, life adjustments, trauma recovery, or addiction issues.

Change can come in many forms in our lives. It might come suddenly like a tidal wave, or gradually like a slow dripping leak. It might come in the form of devastating tragedy, difficult choices, broken relationships, or even new opportunities. Although change can be extremely hard, it can also be extremely necessary. Experiencing anything great in life requires us to challenge ourselves to push past our comfort zones. However, we oftentimes avoid change out of fear of the unknown, or self-doubt. Other times, we don’t realize the need for change until we experience pain.

I believe that the core to effective therapy is a strong and trusting relationship between therapist and client. Within this working relationship we can explore deeper issues and learn healthier ways of coping and bringing about positive change. People have within themselves the ability to heal but finding that inner strength is sometimes limited by unhealthy coping skills, stress, trauma and grief. It is important to treat the whole person, not just the addiction. I utilize a Person Centered/Strength Based Approach in helping clients reach their goals.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
