I am well versed in many evidence-based therapy modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), structural family therapy, and emotion-focused therapy (EFT) to work with individuals, couples, and families struggling with anger, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.
Feeling lost, confused, stuck in repetitive patterns that often time leave you with more questions, doubts, and uncertainties? Most of us called it "Life". As a marriage and family therapist, I help clients to reframe these negative experiences into life-altering opportunities where growth, healing, and resiliency can occur. Through co-discovery, we will pursue the awareness and mindset necessary for authentic living. Everyone possesses the innate capability to be happy and form long-lasting, healthy relationships. I assist in fostering the tools necessary for such.

Change is inevitable. So what happens when the consequences of the change are so negative they severely impact our lives? We sometimes feel stuck, unsure of what direction to proceed. In my practice, WalkinTalkinTherapy, I provide an avenue to address these changes by combining the simplicity of walking outdoors with talk therapy. Advocates of the combined approach say that being active during the session helps patients relax and open up - scientists have long known that a workout can temporarily boost serotonin levels and improve mood, the latest research shows that exercise can have a deeper and more lasting effect.

Your anxiety is always present, and depression is a constant visitor, yet, energy and motivation rarely exist. You instinctively understand that society's rules are not always relevant; at the same time, it is hard to decide what is important and how to find your life's purpose, especially with unrealistic media expectations. You worry about money, the future, and the carbon footprint. You have difficulty with challenging conversations and making meaningful relationships. It is hard for you to keep up with the demands of life, keep things organized and workable, and find a healthy balance in life.

Starting therapy can be intimidating and overwhelming. But it can also give you the chance to face the challenges and stressors of life, utilize helpful coping skills and allow you to live the life you want for yourself. I believe every client that is willing to do the work can achieve whatever their goals are. Having a therapist with an unbiased, outside perspective can be helpful in understanding behavioral or thought patterns that are not beneficial for you, and can help with implementing techniques to change these to be more supportive.

My clients describe me as warm, engaging, thoughtful and funny, but also as direct, challenging, and focused; seeking out the hard and stuck places in their approach to living and loving. I don't try to convince my clients that life is easy or carefree, but I do believe a lot of contentment with life and acceptance of the self can be found when we face and come to terms with our truths. Unlike many folks offering therapy services, I have engaged in extensive education and training, in analytically informed psychotherapy, which I belief enriches and deepens the work.

The most common issues I work with, and with which I’ve had the most success in my 17 years as a counselor, are depression, anxiety, anger, borderline personality disorder, suicidality, self-harm, and gender and sexual identity.
Welcome! As you seek therapy for the first time or are returning to it, my goal is to make it a positive and comfortable experience. What can you expect in a session? A conversational approach – with you doing most of the talking – while I reflect, validate, and ask you questions that elicit deeper understanding, authenticity, and feelings of hope.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
