More Than Just Talk....... If you haven't been in psychotherapy before, you may not realize that the traditional approach to treatment is to educate the client about their conditions and teach them how to change their own feelings and behaviors. Although this approach can be very helpful, it is usually a long process that depends a great deal on the individual's courageous persistence. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, families, and adults. In particular, I work with individuals (and their families) impacted by traumatic stress. I would describe traumatic stress as an "unhealed wound." These wounds can manifest themselves in disruptive behaviors, defiance, anxiety, depression, struggles with focus, aggression, self-injury, perfectionism and substance use. When wounds are triggered it is common for the person to engage in a fight, flight, or freeze response. The trauma oriented work that I offer assists people of all ages to engage in more effective responses to their wounds. The fight, flight, or freeze response goes away.

My ideal client is an individual who recognizes need and is open to assistance with help in areas of self-awareness and processing skills. This client would struggle in areas of acceptance and cognitive processing and ask the question " Why am I feeling or acting this way". Their issues could range from anger management, anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, grief, substance use disorder, or simply understanding themselves is a healthy manner. They would be in search of ways at which they could implement small changes in their daily routine to produce sustained positive change.
