Psychotherapy is the process of deepening awareness. This means knowing and facing our emotions. Anxiety is an emotion that makes everything harder. We can learn methods of dealing with it so it doesn't cripple us. Anger is an emotion that makes us and others miserable.Once we learn its triggers, we can tame it. Depression can be treated by leaning new ways of seeing things. Learning how to connect with people in healthy ways is vital to our happiness. Many of our relationships are painful. Since psychotherapy is a relationship with another, it is an excellent way to learn how to connect with someone without fear of being judged.

At Opulence Mind Counseling and Consulting LLC , I believe people can change. Seeking support and professional guidance is the first step. As a licensed clinical professional counselor, I define my role as helping individuals or groups of people identify the loose puzzle pieces of their personal narrative that is causing very challenging and complicated issues. No one should be expected to handle difficult times alone. I help my clients every step of the way.

I'm currently accepting new referrals, and am eager to help individuals overcome difficult life transitions, anxiety, depression and/or feelings of being 'stuck'. Life can throw curveballs, but with the right tools and support you'll be able to navigate with confidence. I work well helping individuals who have trouble with anxious and worried thinking, have poor self-confidence, or are making their way through changes in life like graduating from college and starting a career, managing rocky relationships, or reframing their newfound freedom after raising a family. Stress is tough, but thankfully finding help doesn't have to be!

I believe life is all about connection and relationships: the one we have with ourselves, others, our environment, our spirit/soul or higher power however you decide to identify such to be of utmost importance. I also believe that our traumas and our own fears often put ourselves in our own way. Therapy, having someone accompany us on life's journey, can be a very helpful avenue in providing a safe and supportive context to look at ourselves, the opportunity to deepen our self-understanding and reflect on our choices as well as carves out time to evaluate our lives from another perspective.

I believe that we're all works in progress, having found this to be true of clients struggling with life changes to clients with the most complicated of problems--even young gang members, in whom I've had the privilege of seeing humanity and goodness. The role of therapist, for me, is one of empowering, bearing witness to life's bewilderment and suffering, and jointly creating a peace of mind and resilience, sometimes in the face of unresolved problems, while honoring one's own truth and rewriting our narratives in a way that makes sense to us as we make meaning to our lives.

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
