Are you challenged by anger? Do you struggle with communicating or connecting with your spouse or partner? Are you curious why sometimes things are going great, but you cannot really enjoy them because you are waiting for the other shoe to drop? Do you feel stuck? Ever wondered why certain movies activates tears and other situations is almost laughable? Ever wondered what EMDR would be like? Do you have a teenager that is able to push all of your buttons and not break a sweat? Does your teenager feel overwhelmed, anxious, challenged or stuck? These are just a few areas of real life I work with, you are not alone.

I have 16 years of clinical experience in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, anger, relationship issues, and most mental health disorders. Wellness is possible for everyone no matter what they have had to walk through. Coping is possible, but healing is essential to move beyond the places we become stuck.

You have a story. A very important and unique story. Sometimes your story keeps you stuck. It keeps you from being the best version of yourself. If your story involves trauma whether from sexual abuse, divorce as an adult or child, physical or verbal abuse, loss, relationship conflict, boundary confusion, religious confusion, natural disasters, accidents, etc, I can help you reprocess these memories and the negative things that you tell yourself. It takes a lot of strength to reach out and ask for help however, I will provide you a safe space to do just that.

Life is hard. Have you ever felt that the demands of the day are too heavy? I understand that journey personally. You have to keep up. You have to keep going, but the dread... The fake smile. The held back tears. It feels like an eternity of wondering when you'll feel the light again. "It's hopeless. I am not meant to have a good life. I don't deserve it anyway." You need to feel better but do not know how. I have walked this journey. I have walked this path, and through my own healing and experience, I don't believe anyone should suffer alone. I am here to give an empathetic ear to help and come along beside you on your journey.

Life gets to us sometimes. Sometimes we need help. I'll be your coach, support, and cheerleader through this tough time in your life, and can provide you with the good constructive feedback that you need. If you're motivated to make positive change in your life, I might be able to help you. I find that seeking to answer the common question of "why am I doing this?" is very helpful and freeing for people, and reminds them that they can in fact make changes to get their lives back on track.

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
