My name is Michael Branchaud and I have been a practicing mental health professional for the past 30 years. My therapy model is based on controlling our thoughts to better regulate our emotions and behaviors. This is done by understanding their relationship to one another. We are born with three life goals, the need to be safe, the need to belong to something greater than our self and the need to be accepted for who we are and not for what we do or don't do.
We develop coping skills at an early age to attain these goals. Unfortunately, not all coping skills remain functional due to changes in our life. When coping skills no longer help us gain our life goals, we may feel anxious and or depressed.
I help clients develop new coping skills to reduce the anxiety or depressed mood they are feeling. Homework assignments of reading and YouTube viewing are given. Clients work on their own between sessions, but they decide the amount of time between the sessions. It usually takes 7 to 10 sessions to complete.
