My therapy work is largely focused on people actively engaged in affecting the world around them; including those active in social change efforts; entrepreneurs; and researchers, teachers, and technical and supervisory professionals. I help those concerned about promoting social change to work on their personal issues in a climate supportive of their activism. I am also aware of the difficulties researchers and other professionals sometimes feel in psychotherapy that may feel alien. I bring this awareness to therapy, while helping those involved in administrative roles navigate the complexities of working with others who sometimes have very different personal styles.
When confronted by life's problems, we need to understand what went wrong and use that understanding to change the world around us. My job as therapist is to help you resolve your personal contributions to problems so that you can devote greater energy to fixing the world around you.
I have been conducting psychotherapy for thirty years, while teaching, conducting research, and working with nonprofit organizations. I am Director of the Social Justice and Human Rights Program at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis, where I try and integrate therapeutic and social change cultures.
