My ideal client may have a difficult time identifying their emotions and feeling like they are not “allowed” to feel emotions. My ideal client may tend to intellectualize or overthink their experiences. This person may work hard to maintain a high standard that is often unrealistic. My ideal client may have a history of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and chronic illness. The client’s goal is to learn to understand how they feel and give themselves permission to feel the way they do. This client recognizes that they are feeling overwhelmed, resentful, anxious, frustrated, sad, angry and they are looking for a change.

I have over 22 years of experience working with children and families. The principles of wraparound are a major component of my work as I believe that families are the experts on their own experiences, strengths and needs. Building an integrated team of both natural and professional supports can help a family meet their goals for themselves in a way that is sustainable.

Limited in person hours starting Jan.24! I believe that key aspects of therapy are the willingness to change, to have difficult conversations and to be challenged. Deciding to go to therapy can provoke anxiety and there are often a lot of questions about what therapy is and what it can do. My goal is to make that process easier to go through, and to understand.I strive to understand the unique needs of each individual and build a collaborative relationship. My goal is to help those I work with meet their goals by helping them build on their strengths in a caring, non-judgmental environment.

Minds think just like lungs breathe. Bodies feel what is happening in and around us. Actions are always happening. These three events are interwoven and part of our human experience. Sometimes though, these events cause more stress than we want and know what to do with. Sometimes we have have habits that were helpful in certain situations but are no longer serving a positive purpose, and others we care about are telling us this. If you are struggling with thoughts and emotions that have become difficult to be with and/or with behaviors that are taking you away from living your healthiest self, I would enjoy talking with you,

The ideal client would finally be open to change and hope to have better interpersonal relationships. This can be a client who struggles with their anxiety, possibly has poor attachment styles, and struggles with holding meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, familial). Their goals would be identifying healthy boundaries and healthy responses, increasing effective communication skills, and identifying past relationships/present relationships in order to identify patterns/habits.

Life can be very challenging at times. Often, we find ourselves in places, wondering how did I get here? Or not again? Although the details may be different, you will find repeated themes in your life. The first step in solving any problem is to identify the problem. We will work together to gain an understanding of: why you are where you are at this time in your life, what you would like to change, and learn the tools needed in order to effectively make the changes and establish long and short term goals.

Do you struggle with feeling overwhelmed by the demands of life? Are you feeling stuck in a relationship, job or an old pattern of behavior? Do you find yourself swept up in emotions such as anger, disappointment or anxiety? Many people come to me when they feel at a loss and have a desire to numb, withdraw or act out. Seeking support is the first step toward feeling better. I enjoy working with individuals who find it difficult managing their anxiety and stress leading to feelings of anger and isolation, or having trouble in relationships due to an inability to communicate their internal experience.

The individuals that I treat most often have varying levels of need and are at different stages in their own therapeutic process. For this reason, I am very person-centered and tailor treatment to each individual's particular needs. I work with all ages but most often with children, adolescents, and young adults. The majority of individuals that I see struggle with anxiety, depression, anger, eating disorders, self-injury, school problems, and ADHD. However, I also have advanced training in working with individuals with chronic mental health issues and personality disorders.

My primary expertise involve helping persons with anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship issues, chronic pain and illness/disability.
I have been a clinical psychologist since 1982 and served as chief psychologist for a neurological and rehab organization for over 30 years. I have now moved on and am excited to have my own practice, and am accepting new clients. I continue to enjoy meeting people, each of whom has their own unique personality, and have found that the best approach to help my clients is to be a good listener, a "real person", to maintain hope and optimism, and to provide clear ideas on how to help them solve their problems. I want my clients to feel welcome, comfortable and eager to collaborate with me in achieving their goals!

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
