I work predominately with issues as marital conflict, parenting, depression, anger management, ADHD, substance abuse, adolescent behavior problems and supporting dads of divorce.
As a marriage and family therapist, I am uniquely trained to identify, track and break patterns between couples & families in conflict. I work toward helping individuals, couples and families take an active role in creating the kind of change they desire. Marriages are not meant to merely SURVIVE, but rather to THRIVE. In couples counseling I help parties develop greater insight into their relationship and maintain a mindfulness toward its growth. Through focusing on action steps, I actively challenge individuals and couples to take accountability for their own thoughts and behavior as opposed to assessing their partner's.

Do you experience anxiety and feel depressed? Is it difficult for you to interact with others, you second guess yourself, and become mentally exhausted because you overthink and worry so much? Perhaps you experienced trauma and have difficulty controlling your emotions and you relive past experiences? You become depressed, feel conflicted, and filled with anger. Maybe you are that person that has difficulty sustaining a relationship or have ongoing marital problems because you can't communicate well. What you want is better control of anxiety, have control of your emotions, and establish happy and healthy relationship.

Life's journey can be overwhelming. I believe one size does not fit all, so I treat people as individuals and always consider the needs of the overall person. I therefore embrace various approaches to therapeutic treatment and often incorporate person-centered, solution-focused, motivational-enhancement therapy (MET) and CBT.

The core of my practice is believing that while everyone’s life experiences are different, and those experiences are what makes an individual unique, one thing that we all have in common is the desire to be understood, supported, and accepted as our authentic selves. My goal as a therapist is to help you discover what makes you, you and help you navigate the challenges that come along with self-acceptance.

One can have the desire to change, but it’s the Courage to take the first step that produces change. You are making a Courageous decision today and I applaud you for that! Therapy is a collaborative effort where we continually take steps to identify and create the change one seeks. My goal as a clinical social worker is three-fold: 1. To help you attain clarity in the matters that negatively impact your life, and 2. To support you as we identify options for dealing with those matters and create the change.

I know what it is like to live in a psychological prison, trying to "stay strong" while repeating the narrative "I'm ok!". You don't have to go on this journey alone. The common thread amongst all clientele is a desire for positive change. At times one may need a helping hand to guide them on their journey in a therapeutic, environment. Seeking guidance is a courageous first step to wholeness and lasting change. Seeking therapy does not mean that you are weak or "crazy"; it means you have decided to address your concerns with non-biased professional help. It's ok to find someone to help you cope with the stressors of life!

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
