Therapy doesn't have to last forever but the benefits will. Most issues people face are relational in nature. There are emotions and behaviors that are problematic. These might include feelings of shame, discontentment, apathy, anger or even numbness. The behaviors might range from avoidance to compulsive and addictive. Are you experiencing problems with yourself or others? In therapy, you'll learn to be challenged and gain tools to handle difficult feelings while making decisions to do the hard work to change behaviors.

Welcome! As humans, we are all on a path of healing and growing. We are born with intrinsic worth, but through painful experiences, we internalize untruths. Our work is about creating a new truth by trimming the pain that keeps you stuck in shame, toxic relational patterns, negative thoughts, unhealthy habits and loss of purpose. Collaboration is the foundation of my work. Humans are the experts in their lives, but I do have experience and training in how to help people make the changes they desire, as well as providing compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental care.

Young professionals and adolescents can find it difficult to adapt in a world that is constantly changing and setting new standards for beauty, success, and self-worth. The ability to feel at home in your own skin and make important choices about family, friends, and partners can be exceeding difficult in today's world. It takes courage to let someone into your life story and even more courage to make meaningful changes in your life. I understand what it is like to go on that journey of self discovery, and I welcome the opportunity to help.

Life can be difficult. Relationships can be tough. Navigating in an uncertain and changing world can be overwhelming. Sometimes you might not even be sure who you are or what to do. Finding a trustworthy person to talk with and sort things through may help. You want a therapist who is focused on you who can set their own values and life experience aside and help you find your own way. You want to be respected for the unique individual you are, and you want more happiness and less pain and frustration.

Have you ever felt like your own worst enemy, that you are not good enough or unlovable? Does your inner critic or negative thoughts sometimes get the best of you? Are you hard on yourself or a perfectionist? Do you have the worst luck or feel that no one can be trusted, or the world is unsafe? On average, we have 70,000 thoughts/day(healthybrains.org) & although negative thoughts are completely normal, they can become problematic. Many times, our negative thoughts are messages we received from others and at some point, we can begin to internalize these beliefs as who we are. You are NOT your thoughts/beliefs & this is the work!

I believe in a Strength-Based approach to therapy. My belief is to start with what is working (even if it is just a little bit) and build from there. I encourage the client to have an active voice in the treatment process and to be involved in their clinical goal setting. I find that CBT and somatic techniques are helpful with many clients and utilize a variety of skills and activities to help clients learn and use these techniques in their daily life.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
