Depression, anxiety, trauma, and the changes that come with getting older can take on many forms. These challenges may lead to feeling overwhelmed, alone and defeated. Furthermore, struggling with difficult emotions can make it hard to see the forest for the trees. When you feel as though your world is spiraling out of control, counseling can help put you back on your feet. Also known as talk therapy, counseling can help build your self-esteem and repair any hurt or doubt that you may be feeling.

I believe in psychotherapy. More than 10 years of practice (including clinical work) confirm that positive effects and healing in psychotherapy are achievable for many if not all states of mental difficulty. Having a Master's in Clinical Psychology makes me a specialist in a wide range of mental disorders. A separate professional area of my practice is consulting professional athletes aged 15 and older.

If you feel stuck, anxious, or held back by the past - you’re not alone. Childhood trauma, difficult experiences, and unsupportive environments shape who we become as adults. Our pain points and inner conflicts often stem from wounds that never fully healed. Lasting change starts with self-awareness and understanding the root causes holding you back. Traditional talk therapy focuses mainly on the mind, but we know that the mind and body are deeply interconnected. Our approach recognizes this connection.

Welcome to my practice! Are you ready for a proactive approach to your therapy? Are you tired of doctors telling you what to do without explanation? If so, you've found the right psychologist. I learn what my clients' goals are versus telling them what I want them to do. We develop a treatment plan together customized to your individual needs. I provide virtual sessions (Zoom, FaceTime, Skype) AND face to face in my Ft. Lauderdale office. Whatever is more comfortable and/or convenient for you suits me. Due to COVID-19, my office is sanitized regularly and antibacterial wipes and spray are available for clients.

One afternoon I told my wife that after another tour, I would be leaving the U.S. Coast Guard for a very different career. Serving my country and the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard is one of the greatest honors and privileges of my life. After serving for nine years I knew that directly assisting and serving people is the life-giving work of my heart. I became a Social Worker and therapist because it is my greatest joy and pleasure to support you as you unify all your strengths and gifts to release your Faith, Hope, and Love into society.

Do you feel scared, worried, confused, or irritable? Is it hard to focus and complete tasks? You may be struggling sleeping. Do you experiencing tightening on the chest, shortness of breath, pounding heart when you are around other people? Do you often feel sad or inadequate? You may find yourself losing your patience with your loved ones or co-workers, behaving in ways you don’t like, or isolating from others, you may feel guilty, or may be tearful often, or you may just not feel normal but do not know why and feel stuck. All this can make it challenging to function at home, in relationships, spiritually, at work, or at school.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
