Persons with issues/problems such as grief/loss, anger, loneliness, job burnout, anger, stress inertia, relationships, divorce, doubt, alcohol, and needing to talk about their have been helped in my practice . Accompanied by anxiety, depression, these pissues subtract from our time and energy. Everyone wants to enjoy life to the fullest, have hope, and feel accepted living in the present moment. The scope of my practice is for individuals, couples, and adolescents. I keep a few slots for persons with alcohol use as long as they are in an established program of recovery.

The ideal client who would reach out for my services comes from various backgrounds and situations, but tends to be those who are at a point in life where they feel stuck and are searching for someone to aid them with support and goal setting. This ranges from those who are struggling with a child at home, to children and adults on the autism spectrum, and those who need court mandated services. I have biblical insight that can provide a faith based perspective if and when that is desired. Sometimes we just need someone who is willing to meet us where we are at in life, and help us feel we are not alone.

It is hard being a parent. It is even harder when your child is experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. As an experienced professional school counselor and licensed professional counselor associate, I assist children, adolescents, and young adults with their mental health needs. I have had the good fortune to work in many clinical settings; schools, mental health clinics, oncology offices, military bases and hospices. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor with over 35 years experience in the mental health field. I was born and raised on Long Island in NY. I retired from Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in 2013. Over the past 35 years I have worked in various setting such as inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient programs, detox, substance rehab and private practice. I take pride in the compassionate care I render to all of my patients through my servants heart and extensive knowledge in mental health and substance abuse disorders.

Hello, I am Jim Bennett ,Counselor. I have compassionately worked with families, couples, individuals, teens and groups for over 29 years. I have worked with these clients in a private practice setting and in an addictions treatment center setting. I have accomplished Masters Degrees in both Counseling and Clinical Psychology. I studied both disciplines to equip myself for assessment as well as treatment . I became a counselor to help teens navigate their way into adulthood. I quickly found that the family is where it all starts. Therefore, I focused on family/marriage counseling. From there I branched into addiction counseling.

My colleagues and I at Advanced Practice Mental Health are focused on providing quality counseling services in the Loris and Myrtle Beach areas.I work with a variety of ages, cultures, genders, and sexual orientations. I find that by working with parents we can improve a child’s behavior and promote a happy family. I have a passion for working with young ladies and women who struggle with self-confidence, relationships, and making positive life decisions. I also work with those struggling with grief and loss.
