I am a LICSW in both RI and MA. My ideal client would be looking for a space where they can grow and be challenged while feeling supported and heard throughout their process. I have worked with children, adolescents, families, couples, and adults with substance use disorders. I have a particular passion for working with couples, Women's/men's issues as well as anyone from the LGBTQ+ community. As a self-identified member of the Queer community, I am passionate about working with this underserved population and creating a safe space where LGBTQ+ people can receive support without having to explain their identity or experience.

Sometimes it is beneficial to just say the things that are bugging us out loud and to someone who can really listen ! I can be that person for you. Sometimes having these feelings can overcome our defensive techniques and overwhelm us. We will talk about you and your needs. I will help you to identify your strengths and build upon them. We can try multiple types of techniques (CBT,ACT, MI, DBT, Mindfulness) and work on identifying the techniques that work for you. While building your self/worth and developing skills you will become confident and successful in achieving your mental health/addiction goals.

My goal is to help individuals learn how to make better choices, be more effective in personal and professional relationships, and improve overall life satisfaction. Topics such as relationships, separation, divorce, loss, job stress, family issues, parenting and major life changes are among many that receive focused attention to resolve upset and create a new path for growth. I use a collaborative approach allowing the client and I to work together to explore problems and identify solutions at a pace which makes sense.

I truly believe it is such a great privilege and honor to have the opportunity to meet and support so many people, wherever they have found themselves on the journey through this life. Each experience is unique and rewarding. I have worked in the human service/mental health field for over 15 years, and have a great deal of experience working with children and families, as well as adults. I've also specialized in working with children and adults who have been diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and experience with helping people cope through depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and other life challenges.

I recognize it is not easy for most people to make the decision to seek help. I will focus on forming a safe therapeutic relationship with you and helping to identify the changes that will lead you to have the life you are seeking. That may mean replacing behaviors or patterns that are no longer working for you or learning new coping skills. My specialties include depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, and substance abuse. I see school- aged children, adolescents, and adults of all ages in individual, couple, and family therapy. I accept many health insurances.

Cannot take new appointments. Individual psychotherapy only. I combine development of coping strategies with deepening an understanding of one's self to help clients improve their overall quality of life. Discovering emotions, attitudes, and behavioral patterns of which a person was previously unaware can be a difficult undertaking, but the end reward is the freedom to truly make decisions for one's self.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
