Life threatening experiences sometimes affect us long after the danger has passed. If you find yourself moving through the world in fear, avoiding situations that remind you, even remotely, of the past, EMDR can help. EMDR addresses the cycle of triggering and avoidance that can be so painful and disruptive. The typical course of EMDR is 1-10 sessions. It may sound unlikely that such powerful memories can soften and lose their hold in just a few sessions. But that is what you can expect from EMDR. It is why EMDR is the treatment of choice for PTSD.
Over the years, I've used EMDR therapy to help people recover from a wide variety of traumas. Some had childhood experiences that were impacting their current adult relationships. Others had been through a recent terrifying event and were already slipping into a pattern of avoidance. EMDR addresses both new and old experiences.
Couples: Relationships fall apart when the individual partners are unhappy and the couple doesn't know how to make things better. When we don't like some aspect of our shared lives, we usually do what we have learned . We either boss and bully, or whine and complain Both styles are destructive. I teach couples the relationship-saving skill of negotiation.

Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation
Learn the basics of mindful meditation from a therapist with more than fifteen years of teaching experience. Mindfulness is the key strategy for gaining control of your emotional landscape and achieving your goals, large and small. I assemble groups of four participants who have a shared interest in learning how to meditate. We find an hour time slot when we're all available and then we meet for four weeks in a row. The fee is $100 for all four sessions, due at the start of the first group.
