I work with individuals with autism and other less visible disabilities, as well as their caregivers. Maybe you’re looking for coping skills to better live with your condition, to improve your self-advocacy and sense of self, or to learn new strategies to support a loved one with a disability? Together we will work to build on the skills you want to hone and to accept yourself as the whole person you are. I am also a member of the LGBTQ+ community and work with anyone facing struggles around sexuality or gender identity.
I am passionate about the crossroads of disability and identity. At what point does compensating for impairment supersede celebrating individuality and diversity? As someone who grew up with multiple invisible disabilities I often struggle with this question. The constant pressure to fit in and mask what makes you different can be truly exhausting.
I have worked in ABA therapy and special education for over a decade. These programs can offer invaluable tools to help children thrive. But when we only operate from a deficit model, we sometimes fail to see that individual as a whole person with a story to tell and a seat at the table.
