Are you struggling? Life shows up and things get difficult. Maybe there are behaviors you want to change or a relationship you would like to see improve. Is there something in your past you would like to let go of? There is no reason to be alone in your pain. Pain is often a motivating factor for change.

Tactical Psychotherapy for men (not exclusively). Approachable, concrete, objective-based psychotherapy, broken down at the outset. Minimal psychobabble or frufoo. You know your concerns, others have opinions based on your behavior, you need a professional to help things make sense to you. Spill it. Find initial relief in three ways: a) top secret confidentiality; b) get understood and feel supported; c) no judgment. Find sustained relief by: a) identifying personal objectives as an individual and as a team member; b) utilize professional recommendations - you make adaptations (concrete and intangible). tacticaltherapy.net

Feeling trapped in a cycle of self-analysis, like you're spinning on a hamster wheel? Even though you've changed jobs, relationships, and shifted various external factors, you're still feeling stuck. You have strong self awareness and can analyze your issues, but you've been feeling like you're dealing with symptoms rather than root causes. Healing doesn't have to feel that way! With the right tools and support, you can learn how to trust yourself again, change unhelpful patterns, and finally get out of your own way. You don't need to be fixed because you're not broken!

I am a South Asian therapist from India. I deeply understand what it means to be a Woman of Color in White spaces. I am a culturally sensitive & competent therapist who understands and emphasizes the importance of learning your cultural background and how it frames our perspective of the world. I understand that we truly exist through intersections and our identities shape how we "fit in" or "belong". My background stems from Rehabilitation and Counseling as well as working with a First Episode Psychosis clinic. I feel I bring a very rich level of knowledge to patients as they begin their journey to meeting their goals.

Sometimes we feel stuck. We’ve tried on our own to heal, grow, and learn but we still find ourselves in the same patterns that have led to a continuous cycle of confusion, shame, and hopelessness. You are not alone. If you have found yourself questioning your worth, your relationships, or your identity, I am here to help. Most of us know, logically, that hardship, distress, and unwanted emotions are a part of life. But sometimes we were not given the correct tools to manage these difficult experiences. Together, I believe we can connect back to your authentic self so that you can lead the life you want.

Hello and welcome! One thing that sets me apart from other therapists is my warm, friendly personality and the radical acceptance and love I have for my clients. Many clients report they're surprised at how easy it is to open up to me. Perhaps this is because I value you as a person and your inner wisdom above my own expertise. In therapy, I like to think of us as a team, working together to uncover parts of yourself you may have hidden away, discovering patterns that may have served you in the past but now hold you back, and trying out new ways of relating to strong emotions or showing up in the world. We're in this together.

Are you an ambitious BIPOC but fear you won’t have the energy levels or emotional stability to maintain your goals? Do you struggle with needing things to be perfect, doubt your abilities, stress, struggle to focus, or feel down on yourself? Feeling like a burden all the time & hiding parts of yourself makes you feel stuck. Time management is off and your once helpful routines are a distant memory. And still, you're doing the things you need to, but feeling exhausted, alone, & overworked is not sustainable. You know there's a better way to move through the world and you're ready to feel lighter, organized, supported, & sustainable.

I help young adult women feel confident, competent, & in control of their lives. My clients are exhausted like you are. Despite being hard working, determined, & creative, they still feel stuck in a loop. They feel like they’re drowning in a storm of stress, high expectations & confusion about the path ahead-- it’s a full time job keeping their head just above the rising water. They vacillate between feeling powerful & powerless, motivated & avoidant, on top of the world & crushed beneath it’s weight. Sometimes they have a formal diagnosis of Anxiety, Depression, or Trauma, and sometimes... well, sometimes life is just hard.

Is REM's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" playing as your daily soundtrack? We get it....life is FUCKING scary right now. Things feel unpredictable, chaotic, and overwhelming and it's easy to despair. You may be thinking “If we needed to talk about feelings, they would be called ‘talkings'- Nick Miler. Keeping all of this bottled up inside and dealing with it on your own isn't serving you though. There's no medal for "doing it all on your own." Whether you're struggling with your identity, sexuality, racial tension, or social justice, your concerns are valid, and you deserve to be HEARD. Therapy offers that space.

Would you like empowerment to contribute your gifts to the world? Drawing upon my 30 years in recovery, 18 years as a therapist, and a wealth of tools I have learned through my passion for serenity and empowerment, I help people enhance relationships with other people, sometimes with a higher power, and, especially, with themselves.

As humans, I believe we need a soft place to land. Being in the world brings with it a variety of feelings, thoughts, and sensations, but often we struggle to find space in our lives to process these experiences. I believe the connection and safety offered through individual therapy creates an opportunity to name the parts of us that feel painful or confusing or joyful — to allow us to move toward greater self-acceptance by noticing and being heard.

Life is really rough right now in so many ways! We have never experienced anything like what we are experiencing right now. Life has been flipped upside down, anxiety is sky high, depression is increasing, relationships are suffering, and those with children are being forced to become homeschool teachers. The sense of balance in our lives has been thrown out. We feel stuck, depressed, anxious, and maybe even hopeless. It is really important to take care of yourself in this space and reach out for help, to talk things through, and figure out how to move forward in a positive direction. You don’t need to stay stuck in this space.

I believe your identities and how you move through the world are important and deserve to take up space in the therapy room. The ways white supremacy and other oppressive parts of our world affect your journey are often parts that go unrecognized by others. I especially love working with folks who are LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and/or have an identity that is marginalized in some way by our normative culture.

Hello! I have over 25 years of experience & specialize in anxiety, trauma, chronic stress, self-regulation and recovery. I value in depth assessment which informs our process. Unlike some types of supportive counseling, I offer education about how life experiences are hardwired into our brains & how this impacts all aspects of life and our relationships. I also focus on teaching skills to transform anxiety and stress into resilience, calm, and increased joy. To do that, I use mindfulness, somatic/body-based skills, brainspotting, neurofeedback, psychedelic & ketamine - assisted psychotherapy, RRT, and nature-based connection.

Perhaps right now you feel empty, dissapointed in yourself, detached or just plain sad. Maybe it is that you have made some bad decisions that brought you down a path you never imagined for yourself. Maybe your mood feels out of control, you can not stop crying or perhaps it is the opposite and you are feeling on top of the world and you do not know why. I have been there and I want to use my experiences to help. Because I approach client goals with a team mentality you will be in the drivers seat from day one.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Asheville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
