I am a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience helping individuals adjust to and cope with chronic physical symptoms and medical conditions. I focus on the symptom(s) that is(are) disrupting your life and teach skills that are known to help with management of the symptom. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, insomnia, chronic pain, headache, GI distress, cardiac, allergy, respiratory issues, coping with side effects of medications, and other symptoms that interfere with daily functioning. I work with adults and am happy to include family members and other socially supportive friends.
I am specialized in an area called Behavioral Medicine or Health Psychology. I use well researched short-term cognitive-behavioral interventions. This means that I teach specific skills known to help people manage their symptoms. Patients can expect to see me for anywhere from 3 to 8 sessions (longer if necessary).
While I may not be able to "cure" the illness or symptom you are experiencing, cognitive-behavioral therapy for physical symptoms is known for decreasing the experience of the symptoms and improving quality of life. Making a few lifestyle changes can have a dramatic impact on the symptoms and how you get through each day.
