I believe that life is to be fully experienced and enjoyed. Too often, the stresses and traumas of life prevent us from stepping into who we really want to be. It's my passion to come alongside kids, teens, parents, and adults, and support them in their journey towards peace and health. My therapeutic approach begins from a person-centered perspective, which addresses the unique needs of each person. When indicated, I use cognitive-behavioral therapy to assist clients in identifying and changing harmful thought patterns. I also incorporate EMDR or DBT Skills Training as needed.
With children, I use Child-Centered Play Therapy to help children process trauma, express and regulate emotions, build confidence, and develop social skills. I also offer Child-Parent Relationship Therapy to empower parents to connect with their children and respond rather than react. Search my name on YouTube to view my TEDx talk on how kids communicate.
I am currently pursuing my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at UNC Charlotte. Prior to becoming a counselor, I worked as a high school teacher and enjoyed adapting my classroom for students with behavioral or academic needs. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, moving my body, being outside, and drinking good coffee.

Groups
Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT)
CPRT is a 10-week evidence-based treatment (over 115 peer-reviewed research studies showing its efficacy) for equipping parents to support children who are presenting with emotional or behavioral concerns. CPRT enables parents to become the therapeutic agent of change by teaching them how to conduct 30 minute, weekly therapeutic play sessions at home. Parents will meet for two hours each week in group, learning one new skill to implement, and then report back to troubleshoot together. Parents can expect to feel supported, understood and not judged, and empowered to move forward in their parenting journey with practical skills.
