As your therapist, I want to collaborate with you, not tell you what to do. I trust you are the expert on your own life. I trust your instincts and your body (even if you don't anymore). While I am gentle in my approach, I am also direct if I see things that may be harmful. My work is highly focused on processing past trauma, including those super mean thoughts about yourself that might be playing out in your head. Your life going forward doesn't have to be a repeat of your past. If you've struggled with emotionally immature people in your life, that has an impact. I promise I will believe you.
Traumatic experiences create the need for coping. Usually those strategies were effective when we were younger, but they might be a bit dicey as we get older. As you come to therapy, we will work to identify what patterns you have used to cope, and tease out how to create more effective strategies for the future. I love working with neurodivergent folks!
I work most often with people who have childhood trauma and are neurodivergent. If you want someone who is going to help you figure out the interplay of ADHD, autism, cPTSD, dissociation and OCD, that's my jam. My favorite modalities are IFS, EMDR, ACT and DBT. I dig deep to find the roots of the problem instead of staying on the surface.
