I use techniques based in research to help people sleep and new mothers navigate transitions. I work with patients struggling with stress and mood problems that often rob them of sleep. I love to see patients try something new in their day-to-day life and see the negative cycle of poor sleep and bad days turn into sleep and daytime confidence. I also enjoy working with people seeking therapy for fertility, pregnancy and postpartum-related concerns. In this area, I seek to help families clarify and make the complicated decisions that come with family planning, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood.

I have experience in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, autism/ADHD, sexual/gender identity, and insomnia in both adult and adolescent populations.
Hello and nice to "meet” you! I'm so glad you’ve stumbled upon my page. I know that life can be difficult to navigate through sometimes and I'm here to hopefully make that process feel more manageable. My approach is not to tell you what to do or how to navigate your struggles, but instead to equip you with the tools you need to do so on your own. More than anything else, it's my goal to help you walk away from our sessions feeling that you have developed a greater awareness of how to decisions that feel healthy and right for you and thus give you the power over your own life and happiness.

I am passionate about helping people improve their well-being and regain a sense of hope. Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), I help clients improve sleep by exploring beliefs and circadian rhythm dysfunctions that hinder sleep. CBT-I is a powerful protocol that the American College of Physicians recognizes as the first-line treatment for adults with chronic insomnia. In addition to sleep therapy, I utilize biofeedback to train heart rate variability (HRV), which aids in regulating nervous system functioning, decreasing anxiety, enhancing emotional regulation, and improving stress management.

I use a practical approach to treat problems such as anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders that may keep us from what we desire.
Therapy is an experience that can benefit everyone. It allows us to take the time to look closely at ourselves. It can help us manage difficult life changes and improve our relationships. Everyone experiences stress and worry, and speaking with a psychologist who is nonjudgmental and objective can help us understand how to achieve our professional, personal, and relationship goals.

My specialty is treating anxiety and panic disorders but I am also experienced helping with a variety of issues including depression, insomnia and difficulty adjusting to life changes or transitions. For twenty years I've had the privilege of working with clients like yourself, helping them to find solutions and to work toward a more manageable and enjoyable life. Its my experience that providing a genuine, non judgmental, empathetic and caring environment are the most important factors for positive change, as well as an encouraging treatment that is tailored to the individuals unique strengths and resources.

I also specialize in the treatment of insomnia.
How do you get from feeling anxious, depressed, or simply overwhelmed, to feeling good and performing well at your job, with your academics, or in your relationships? By taking two evidence-based treatments (cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy) and adding a warm, supportive, and experienced therapist, the result can be major, positive change. As a therapist who has been working in these modes for over ten years, I have seen these changes first hand, witnessing the personal growth that brings with it a fulfilling life and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you as you build the life you want.

I do take a DBT approach in my work as well as a focus on nutrition and sleep/ insomnia.
Confused by what all the acronyms are behind the therapists names? Aren't they all just therapists? Realizing that in every therapy profile they describe their self as "eclectic".... How about trying to understand where you fall on a sliding scale but wondering how your insurance could play effect? What is therapy?.... Life throws a lot at us and it always seems to occur all at once, leaving us with unanswered questions and lack of support. I'm here to help make sense of it all (including those questions above) and get us to where we mentally deserve to be at this time in our life.

We are a group of clinical psychologists offering cognitive-behavioral approaches to help clients realize their full potential. Cognitive behavioral therapy provides practical tools to help people overcome obstacles. We work with adults, children and adolescents stuck by emotions such as anxiety, sadness, fear or anger. Many of our clients also come to us with the burden of worrisome, disturbing thoughts. Others are managing behaviors like insomnia, procrastination, anger outbursts and addictive or repetitive behaviors. Attention disorders may also impede the success of children and adults. Many just have difficulty coping with the stress of daily life and the demands of a fast paced city.

I’m an experienced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia provider.
I specialize in anxiety, insomnia and life purpose because they’re challenges I’ve personally overcome. I help people find the exit ramp out of anxiety. I understand how much the race for external validation has cost you. Living in repeating cycles of overwhelm, avoiding, then shaming yourself for it. You wonder if you have to live with the physical symptoms and insomnia forever. And the highest cost of all – you never got to know yourself. Paradoxically, your anxiety is actually a flashing signal to change. Work with me and discover the way back to you. And, if it feels like chronic insomnia has taken over your life, there’s hope.

I have also been trained in CBT-I and can offer a short term focused treatment for those struggling with chronic insomnia.
Have you recently had a baby or is your due date right around the corner? The excitement is probably starting to wear off and the exhaustion and fears are setting in. This period of your life is full of overwhelming changes. Just getting out of the house with a newborn may feel like a challenge. I am a licensed clinical social worker that focuses on providing supportive, nonjudgmental therapy in a comfortable environment for new parents. This can be a scary time for everyone and it is important to remember that you do not have to go through it alone.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
