Psychoanalytic therapy is unique because it takes up the question of the individual — your particular history, your singular experience, and importantly, what you have to say about it all. We live inside, as well as outside, of the systems that give our lives shape — cultural, family, language systems. I center my listening on your particular experience within these systems to help you begin to understand why you feel the way you do.
Psychological symptoms causing suffering are coded messages that speak to desires and conflicts, efforts at managing disappointment and pain. I listen for what is happening under the surface. Through this process, you begin to listen to yourself differently too, creating space for your often hidden innermost beliefs to emerge.
Paying close attention to desires and conflicts, inner and external worlds, weaving past and present, fantasy and reality, I help you put words to what feels unsayable. By working without judgement and in great detail, we work towards effecting change. To this end, I see patients more than once per week.
