I offer support to those dealing with end of life issues, including those who are terminally ill themselves and those who are caring for them. Caregiver burnout can be brutal and I would love to support you through this time. I am also highly social justice-focused and am feminist, anti-racist, pro-LGBTQ+, pro all gender identities, body neutral, and non-religious. As a woman of color, it has been healing for me to see a practitioner who experiences oppression and I would love to be that safe space for you as well. I am casual, laid-back, empathetic, neuro-divergent and candid. I want you to guide how I can support you.

I work with clients who want more satisfaction and meaning in life and relationships. The pain of anxiety, low mood, ADHD, addictive or compulsive behaviors, transitions, loss, trauma, or relational distress motivates them to look for change. They are curious about knowing themselves more deeply, through the heart and felt-sense experience, as well as the intellect. To grow beyond the safety of the familiar self in meaningful ways, they are willing to face some discomfort and vulnerability, and commit to useful behaviors and habits. They value this one precious life they have here, and want to make the best of it.

Andrew Baker's goals in the therapeutic process is to find the pace that his clients need. For some this might require some time to get to know each other and develop a therapeutic relationship. Others might be ready to step into deeper issues that are affecting them right away. Either way he is here to help. His core beliefs as a therapist is that you are inherently good, and your identity is important and should be protected. He hopes to get the opportunity to prove these things to you.

I provide support for anyone experiencing any form of distress, depression, or anxiety. This is often expressed as unhappiness with your life, work, or relationships. Overarching my approach is an interest in the creation of meaning. How do you make sense of your experience? What do you want? How do you navigate life’s challenges and build reserves of flexibility and adaptability? Together we can explore these questions of purpose and direction to create new pathways. In addition to working with individuals; I am also a trained mediator and enjoy working with couples and family members on relationship issues.

I am unable to accept new clients at this time. Relationships may be difficult to say the least. Sometimes we feel blindsided by life's twists and turns. We all struggle at times to feel understood or with self doubt, while searching for solutions to overwhelming problems. Whether you are an individual or couple troubled by a present, past or current event, taking that first step, towards talking to someone who may be able to help sort things out, may be one of the most difficult things you do. I would like to make it a little easier.

My areas of specialties with senior's include Alzheimer's support, therapy concerning grief and loss, life transitions and depression and anxiety.
I specialize in working with people in transition, individuals, couples and young adults. As a Generalist with an emphasis in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I tailor my approach to each individual I work with. I want to fully understand your story; however, I recognize it is important for you to feel comfortable. My first job is to help you become comfortable enough to begin sharing your story. Without a therapeutic partnership, it is difficult to make progress and build the trust necessary for growth and change.

Alzheimer's Therapists

What are the first-line treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease?

The first-line treatment for Alzheimer’s disease is often medication, which may be prescribed based on the severity of the disease. These include cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, or a combination of the two. Behavioral treatments can help people cope with emotional distress, such as anxiety or anger, and explore lifestyle changes related to housing, caregiving, sleep, and finances.

When to seek treatment for Alzheimer’s?

It’s best to seek treatment at the first signs of dementia. Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s include memory problems, such as forgetting appointments or directions, as well as trouble concentrating, paying attention, retrieving words, and carrying out daily household tasks. An early diagnosis can help people slow the progression of the disease with treatment and plan for the future in terms of housing, support, finances, and legality.

Are there specific medications to treat Alzheimer’s?

Medications approved by the FDA to manage symptoms of Alzheimer’s include galantamine, rivastigmine, and donepezil for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s, and memantine, donepezil, and the rivastigmine patch for moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. These drugs can help manage the disease, but no drug currently cures the disease. Medications recently approved by the FDA, such aducanumab and lecanemab may slow the disease course, but aspects of their effectiveness are still debated.

Are there natural treatments for Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured via natural remedies (nor via medication), but some lifestyle habits can help forestall it or slow its progression. Lifestyle activities that can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease include regular exercise, a healthy, well-rounded diet, stimulating cognitive activity, time spent socializing, adequate sleep, and stress management as needed.
