If you are wondering about changes or difficulties in your or a family member's thinking skills (e.g., memory, attention, problem solving, language, processing speed, visuospatial abilities), then a neuropsychological evaluation may help you understand the contributing factors and adjust the environment, processes, or relationships that are leading to these difficulties. Through interview, testing, and consulting, we can develop a deep understanding of cognitive and emotional strengths and weaknesses that can inform an effective treatment plan and establish a baseline of current functioning.

Many of us are facing daily struggles but don't know how to properly cope or address these issues. Life can get ahead of us with daily stress, kids, work, along with added financial, marital, addiction or trauma issues. There is a way to find a healthy balance, and sometimes it's as simple as having someone to talk to, or empathize with you. There is a healing process we can open ourselves up to, and help us breath a little easier. This is what therapy can offer everyone. I can help you develop the tools needed to reach your goals or just lend a listening ear in times of struggle.

My clients tend to be experiencing stress and want to find connections between past experiences, patterns of response, strong emotions and current life circumstances. Life transitions can feel overwhelming and loss can become a catalyst for change. This is often the beginning of an opportunity to gain greater understanding of our selves and the meaning we make in our lives.

Hi there! Welcome to your therapy journey. Whether you are brand new to therapy, or an old hand, I promise I am going to do my best to help you figure out who you are, what you want out of life, and most importantly, how to go about it. My life experience has taught me that there is no one size fits all approach to therapy. I strive to be warm, flexible, and accepting of many people in different walks of life from ages 16 to 96 (and beyond). I enjoy working with "creative types" like myself. I am LGBTQIA+ identified and accepting. I also have extensive experience with elders over 65, memory loss, and caregiver burnout.

I do not limit my practice to serving only those who consider themselves “a person with a disability;” however, I do appreciate that EVERYONE has their own set of strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to help the individuals I work with identify and enhance their strengths so they can more efficiently use them to minimize the effects of weaknesses as barriers to achieving their goals and improved quality of life. To achieve these outcomes, I rely upon evidence-based cognitive and behavioral interventions, including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy that are tailored to each client’s unique history, present concerns, and future plans.

Alzheimer's Therapists

What are the first-line treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease?

The first-line treatment for Alzheimer’s disease is often medication, which may be prescribed based on the severity of the disease. These include cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, or a combination of the two. Behavioral treatments can help people cope with emotional distress, such as anxiety or anger, and explore lifestyle changes related to housing, caregiving, sleep, and finances.

When to seek treatment for Alzheimer’s?

It’s best to seek treatment at the first signs of dementia. Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s include memory problems, such as forgetting appointments or directions, as well as trouble concentrating, paying attention, retrieving words, and carrying out daily household tasks. An early diagnosis can help people slow the progression of the disease with treatment and plan for the future in terms of housing, support, finances, and legality.

Are there specific medications to treat Alzheimer’s?

Medications approved by the FDA to manage symptoms of Alzheimer’s include galantamine, rivastigmine, and donepezil for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s, and memantine, donepezil, and the rivastigmine patch for moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. These drugs can help manage the disease, but no drug currently cures the disease. Medications recently approved by the FDA, such aducanumab and lecanemab may slow the disease course, but aspects of their effectiveness are still debated.

Are there natural treatments for Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured via natural remedies (nor via medication), but some lifestyle habits can help forestall it or slow its progression. Lifestyle activities that can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease include regular exercise, a healthy, well-rounded diet, stimulating cognitive activity, time spent socializing, adequate sleep, and stress management as needed.
