I would like to to let my future clients know that for over thirty years I have offered compassionate, solution focused therapy to individuals, couples and families who are changing their lives. Many experienced trauma, a painful loss or difficulty in becoming true to themselves. For some, anxiety, depression or debilitating anger create roadblocks to happiness and connection. Others may be managing health issues, having problems with communication, intimacy, gender identification or sexual behavior concerns. It continues to be a privilege and an honor to be asked to walk with them through to happier, more fulfilled lives.

Accepting new clients now. Welcome! I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 15+ years of experience. I am a Massachusetts native and an alumna of Boston College. I know that starting therapy can feel tough, especially talking to someone you don't know about things that make you uncomfortable, sad, angry, or embarrassed. My style is more conversational than formal, and I maintain a nonjudgmental process that is introspective.

As a clinical neuropsychologist I work with clients to identify areas of cognitive strength and weakness and relate those patterns to known profiles of brain-behavior relationship. The process involves an interview, collateral contacts, and carefully selected standardized assessment of brain and emotional functioning. A neuropsychological evaluation may help identify dementia, direct therapies after traumatic brain injury, or tease out ADHD from learning disorder and other developmental conditions.

As a Physician Assistant, I've worked in public health clinics, private medical practices, a clinical ecology practice, student-health clinics and for ten years in dementia research at The Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry.
Offering a compassionate, safe place in which you can explore current life challenges that may be difficult to face alone. Relationship conflicts, separations, loss, job changes, eating problems and other addictions, medical illness, mid-life and other transitions often require working in partnership with someone who can help you find your own inner resources to move forward in your life. I have thirty-six years of experience as a medical practitioner working with diverse populations, including college students, young, middle age and older adults. I bring that experience to my psychotherapy work, recognizing the whole person, mind, body and spirit.

I also have expertise working with individuals and caretakers who are managing medical issues. This process allows the individual the opportunity to gain clarity in a setting that is confidential and accepting. Alzheimer's Therapists

What are the first-line treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease?

The first-line treatment for Alzheimer’s disease is often medication, which may be prescribed based on the severity of the disease. These include cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, or a combination of the two. Behavioral treatments can help people cope with emotional distress, such as anxiety or anger, and explore lifestyle changes related to housing, caregiving, sleep, and finances.

When to seek treatment for Alzheimer’s?

It’s best to seek treatment at the first signs of dementia. Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s include memory problems, such as forgetting appointments or directions, as well as trouble concentrating, paying attention, retrieving words, and carrying out daily household tasks. An early diagnosis can help people slow the progression of the disease with treatment and plan for the future in terms of housing, support, finances, and legality.

Are there specific medications to treat Alzheimer’s?

Medications approved by the FDA to manage symptoms of Alzheimer’s include galantamine, rivastigmine, and donepezil for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s, and memantine, donepezil, and the rivastigmine patch for moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. These drugs can help manage the disease, but no drug currently cures the disease. Medications recently approved by the FDA, such aducanumab and lecanemab may slow the disease course, but aspects of their effectiveness are still debated.

Are there natural treatments for Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured via natural remedies (nor via medication), but some lifestyle habits can help forestall it or slow its progression. Lifestyle activities that can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease include regular exercise, a healthy, well-rounded diet, stimulating cognitive activity, time spent socializing, adequate sleep, and stress management as needed.
