My attitude and approach to treatment is that while we all have our struggles, every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow as a person. I specialize in working with individuals or adult family members, such as couples, siblings, parents, or entire family units.

I also have extensive experience in trauma-related issues, addictive behavior/substance abuse issues, marriage and family therapy, grief and loss, and dementia.
The constant pressures of daily life, particularly during a pandemic, can leave us feeling overwhelmed, scared, and alone. As we try to navigate our way through issues involving school, work, relationships, life transitions, and grief and loss, we may feel so hopeless that we feel as if we cannot go on like this anymore. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I will provide support and guidance to help you identify unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that you can make positive and sustainable changes to improve your quality of life.

Trust is how I define myself! Building a strong therapeutic alliance through trust and confidence is quintessential to positive change in life! When life gets tough through *Difficulties in relationships, *Sadness or depression, *Feelings of anxiety or panic, *Difficulties controlling your anger, *Struggling with parenting issues, *Acculturation/Ethnic minority struggles, *Grief over the loss of a loved one, *Dealing with substance abuse in yourself or someone you care about... One should consider beginning treatment with a professional trained with brief, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach towards changes in core beliefs and restructuring the thought processes towards a better outlook.....and that's me!

25 years of experience in private practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist has given me the ability to create a warm and safe environment for change. Would you like to make changes in your marriage, family, children or work environment? Sometimes it is helpful to ask what the problem is, rather than why it is a problem. If you know what the problem is, it can be more helpful to solve. We use that philosophy in Brief Therapy, which can be effective for busy, active families and marriages in crises.

I've been a licensed clinical psychologist for over 24 years and have been working in the field for over 45. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and work in the Chicago area in hospitals and in private practice. My approach to therapy is integrative. I have certification in clinical hypnosis and like to work with patients on practical strategies to improve their lives. Once particular problems are addressed, addressing life's meaning and personal potential is always important.

My ideal client is anyone who feels brave and willing enough to take the journey into self-discovery. Regardless of their issues clients need to know and experience positive regard, attentive listening and judgement free interactions. Clients need to feel that their concerns or needs can be met by a clinical professional. The goals of any client would come from collaboration and would hopefully be deemed realistic, worthwhile and attainable.

To be human is to suffer; the fact that pain is inevitable, however, does not mean we should let it consume us. In my therapy room, I focus on tackling the 'hard parts' of the human condition- loneliness, isolation, grief, sorrow, confusion, feelings of futility, etc- in order to guide clients toward a place of deeper self-awareness and a newfound desire to see the beauty of the world. I have experience with residential care for Mood/Anxiety Disorders and Eating Disorders, as well as intensive outpatient programs for Substance Use Disorders.

Alzheimer's Therapists

What are the first-line treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease?

The first-line treatment for Alzheimer’s disease is often medication, which may be prescribed based on the severity of the disease. These include cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine, or a combination of the two. Behavioral treatments can help people cope with emotional distress, such as anxiety or anger, and explore lifestyle changes related to housing, caregiving, sleep, and finances.

When to seek treatment for Alzheimer’s?

It’s best to seek treatment at the first signs of dementia. Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s include memory problems, such as forgetting appointments or directions, as well as trouble concentrating, paying attention, retrieving words, and carrying out daily household tasks. An early diagnosis can help people slow the progression of the disease with treatment and plan for the future in terms of housing, support, finances, and legality.

Are there specific medications to treat Alzheimer’s?

Medications approved by the FDA to manage symptoms of Alzheimer’s include galantamine, rivastigmine, and donepezil for mild to moderate Alzheimer’s, and memantine, donepezil, and the rivastigmine patch for moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. These drugs can help manage the disease, but no drug currently cures the disease. Medications recently approved by the FDA, such aducanumab and lecanemab may slow the disease course, but aspects of their effectiveness are still debated.

Are there natural treatments for Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured via natural remedies (nor via medication), but some lifestyle habits can help forestall it or slow its progression. Lifestyle activities that can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease include regular exercise, a healthy, well-rounded diet, stimulating cognitive activity, time spent socializing, adequate sleep, and stress management as needed.
