We all need someone to talk to! Life can be challenging and sometimes just reaching out for "a soft place to land" can be very beneficial. I have been in practice for many years and have worked with various age populations. Although the mind and body goes through some aging processes, the central themes typically remain the same: sadness over losses- spouses, children, friends, finances and our changing bodies. We experience common feelings of loneliness, fearfulness, isolating, and adjusting to the new "norm" for each of us. We can explore these feelings together. With my patients we focus on their individual needs and strengths.
I encourage my patients to find their inner strengths and to move forward in a direction that is both positive for them and comfortable. With the senior population we focus on understanding and accepting their bodies with their possible limitations, while also dealing with their isolation and family relationships.
Adjusting to new situations in life such as marriage or divorce, job changes, moves, extended families can all be affected by how we view these changes. I utilize CBT, relaxation techniques, and various other tools to help each patient navigate.
