I treat suicidal thinking, self-harming behaviors, and trauma in my practice. I have worked extensively with childhood trauma, as well as complex trauma related to long-term relationships. Often dissociative responses come hand in hand with experiencing trauma, so I also treat dissociation - anything from "feeling floaty," all the way to forgetting big chunks of time. Additionally, when we look at unwanted behaviors, they usually start as a solution to "fix" intense emotional pain, and then they start to feel like the problem itself. What you do to survive the past isn't necessarily what you need to do now to heal and move forward.
First we work together to manage coping, then we go deeper when it's safe to. We'll use DBT to help you decrease dangerous or unhelpful behaviors (anything from self-harm to sabotaging relationships), then we move towards processing trauma with EMDR if that is appropriate. I am DBT intensively trained and fully EMDR trained with continuing ed in parts work.
