Trauma is defined as "a deeply distressing or disturbing experience". Traumatic events are life changing. Living with constant fear and anxiety as a result can be debilitating; making it difficult to connect with others and navigate the world around us. I specialize in treating child and adolescent trauma as well as individuals and families. Early on in my career I worked with high profile trauma cases. This, paired with my experience working in the school setting and my deep curiosity of neuroscience has given me a unique set of clinical skills.

Often we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed with our emotions or situations we are handling. Sometimes we feel stuck trying to move forward because it's not always easy to know what to do. We need a safe place to share, be heard and supported. This is what I provide for my clients. I believe the client/therapist relationship is imperative for positive change. I strive to bring compassion, empathy and understanding to each session.

I see children as young as 5 years old, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in working with individuals who have issues with depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, trauma, PTSD, grief/loss, and substance use. I have a special interest in working with LGBTQIA individuals.

My goal in counseling is to provide professional and compassionate services to clients. I do this by using a non-judgmental approach. The foundation of effective counseling is a good collaborative approach that requires honest caring without judgment. My focus is on anxiety, stress management, perfectionism, the high achiever, social anxiety, trauma recovery, relationship counseling, and life transitions.

Our work together focuses on self-compassion, awareness and setting boundaries in our lives. I believe this work helps bring long lasting, positive changes. Together we explore current issues, traumas, life struggles and transitions to facilitate greater understanding and change. My hope is to build relationships and work collaboratively in a judgement-free zone. I treat a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and interpersonal issues.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and their families. I see children as young as 3 years old and adolescents up to 17 years old. I specialize in working with individuals who have issues with trauma, anger, ADHD, anxiety, depression, parenting, religious trauma, and relationship/attachment issues.

I founded my private practice on the principle of helping others create the life that they want. Often times that means resolving past trauma or issues that stand in our way. Change can be a difficult process, but with someone who understands how change occurs and the pitfalls that can hinder change it is possible. Terry Teipner, MS, LPC, has a Master's Degree in Counseling (Clinical Mental Health emphasis) and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I am a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. I utilize research based approaches in working with adults, children and families including person centered therapy, family systems therapy, solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These therapies aid in helping individuals and couples achieve an enhanced sense of self and a better understanding of themselves and their relationships with others.

For the past 20 years, I have worked with families, couples, adults, and adolescents.
