I thrive on an eclectic approach in therapy, utilizing techniques from CBT, Gestalt, and person-centered modalities.
Life is full of surprises that are sometimes wrapped in feelings that can truly weigh us down. Whether it's anxiety, depression, life stress, grief or past traumas- those are all curveballs that are unexpected and can make it difficult to believe that we can be in control of anything, especially our own inner peace. Therapy is a courageous journey towards cultivating internal resources that can help you with feeling connected, nurtured, and empowered to embrace change as it comes. As your therapist, it is my mission to take this journey alongside you and give you a safe space to better understand your true self.

My theoretical framework is influenced by Gestalt, Person Centered and Transactional Analysis.
Nobody is immune to life problems and the toll they can take on our mental health. With more than 10 years experience, I provide professional and confidential mental health counseling services to diverse persons. I do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation or personal identification and believe that through connection and compassion we can resolve any problem together. Our problems and past experiences do not define us and our future is not yet written. Help is available and you are not alone. Let's work towards building your life the way it was always meant to be: authentic, fulfilling and empowered.

My training includes Gestalt Psychotherapy, Jungian process, Erickson Strategic therapy, Psychodynamics, Mindfulness, Object Relations, and Analysis.
No individual clients. Supervision/consultation only. I've been an LPC clinical supervisor for 25 years. I was an NBCC approved continuing education provider for 22 years, giving workshops nationally. At this point in my career I work almost exclusively with other mental health professionals seeking to improve their diagnostic and treatment skills, or finish a recent graduate's training to complete state requirements for licensing. I am a nationally published author: Mastering the Art of Psychotherapy. Available on Amazon. I served as faculty at the 2015 Erickson Foundation International Congress, lecturing on Dream Analysis.

I also utilize other theories such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Gestalt.
My ideal client is one that shows up and is willing to risk being vulnerable with me, a stranger. Perhaps their life hasn't gone the way they had planned and are greatly troubled by this, and/or they suffer with anxiety, depression, family of origin wounds, or something they can't define. Perhaps the client has experienced (or is currently experiencing) spiritual abuse, and wants to process it AND keep their faith. Regardless, they want to be free from whatever has them bound and be happy again. We weren't mean to carry these burdens.

I work from a trauma- and neuro-informed gestalt perspective that promotes empowerment and resilience through the integration of disparate internal parts.
I believe the counseling relationship is a powerful tool for learning to to be kinder and more generous with ourselves. I understand that many of us come from environments, past or present, that tell us we do not "deserve" safety, love, acceptance, or belonging, and sometimes this keeps us at a remove from our communities and loved ones. In my practice, I collaborate with clients to create a safe, shame-free place for moving through and beyond these messages—a place where it is possible to experiment with vulnerability while searching for the most authentic and empowered version of the client's life.

My approach blends Existential psychotherapy with elements from Gestalt, CBT, and mindfulness.
People choose to enter therapy for many reasons, but ultimately the reason for most people is that we want to feel better. Suffering may be an inescapable part of being human, but that's not all there is. When people are given a compassionate space where they can be open and vulnerable, they discover insights and strengths that can help them approach life with a new perspective and make healthy changes.

I offer individual walk-and-talk sessions and group therapy courses that blend Adventure Therapy principles with somatic experiencing and Gestalt therapy techniques.
Traditional talk therapy isn't a fit for everyone. If you're in search of a more balanced and fulfilling life, and have faced challenges with therapy before, my experiential, nature-based approach could be the solution.

The process of beginning therapy can feel intimidating and daunting, but you have already made the first step! Congratulations! I am a firm believer that therapy is for everyone, whether you have experienced trauma, relational struggles, anxiety, or the transitions that are inherent with our lives. Often times, these burdens become much too heavy for us to bear alone and infringe on our growth and ability to reach our optimal potential. I want to help my clients view themselves through the lens of self compassion and growth. I am honored to walk through whatever journey my clients are willing to bring me on.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
