Some people come to me overwhelmed, exhausted, and insecure. Others need help with an important life decision. My approach is active and collaborative: I trust their knowledge of themselves and offer my insights, skills, and training to achieve lasting change and healing. Together, we identify ways to align their daily lives and environments with their long-term goals and values. We turn avoidance into action and integrate unaccepted aspects of themselves through mindfulness and self-compassion. My approach is warm, nonjudgmental, and genuine. I am passionate about helping people reduce their suffering and build lives they find meaningful and fulfilling.

Depending on the individual's need, I use treatment adherent DBT for adolescents and adults, CBT, or existential-humanistic therapy. I specialize in treating adolescent girls and young adult women for stressors around life transitions, sexuality, perfectionism, relationships, and discrimination among others. I welcome all genders and ages 11+.

Our identities and histories are intricately influenced by our social context which is why I always seek to understand a person in the context of societal factors like discrimination and privilege. My hope is to create a safe space for all identities to explore their realities and wounding.

Alison Alderdice's Groups

Adult DBT Skills Class

For adults enrolled in our full DBT program this group involves learning skills to cope with life's challenges. In keeping with the research on DBT, we follow Dr. Linehan's training manual and cover skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. While this group is very supportive, it is not a support group and likely differs from prior group therapy experiences that emphasize processing issues collectively. The focus here is on learning and practicing skills to overcome the obstacles that have gotten in the way of building a life worth living.
