Social Skills for Children with Social Anxiety
This group is for children differentiated by age and serving ages 3-12 currently with social anxiety/ and Selective Mutism. Skills covered include but are not limited to; nonverbal communication, emotional understanding, how to enter or leave a group. Group begins with a brief introduction of the lesson, interactive learning within the group takes place, and then a game or activity is played to promote social interaction with expert guidance. Space for parents is reserved and a handout explaining each session and optional homework between sessions is given as suggestions to parents. Homework is differentiated by level and ability.
Training in Basics of Selective Mutism
This four hour parent/caregiver/educator training in the basics of selective mutism (SM) is an interactive didactic training to help adults better understand SM and how to interact with children who have SM. Background in anxiety from a brain based and behavioral perspective is given as well as fundamental interaction techniques which have been proven to be successful with children who have SM. There is ample opportunity to practice these skills and receive feedback within this training session.
