Psychotherapy is an active and collaborative process that improves lives by diminishing symptoms and improving mood, and also by helping people achieve fulfillment and derive pleasure from relationships and work. I am a Clinical Psychologist and certified psychoanalyst with 16 years of experience in psychotherapy. I work interpersonally and eclectically, creating an accepting and-when appropriate-challenging atmosphere so that you can make the changes you want in your life.
I work most frequently with people looking to improve relationships and work situations. I focus on shifting long-standing patterns of painful feelings, such as persistent disappointment, shame, guilt, abandonment, neglect. I specialize in mood disorders, parent coaching, and treatment for adolescents. I also work with men's issues: relationships, work, infidelity, and aggression.
I stay current with advances in the field through teaching and supervising graduate and post-doctoral students. I am an Executive Editor for Contemporary Psychoanalysis and on the Editorial Board of The Psychoanalytic Quarterly. I accept Oxford/United insurance plans and offer sliding scale fees at my Upper West Side office.
