| español Pregnancy is a time of transformation as changes take place in the future mother’s body, relationship with her partner, social and work life and environment. Parents have to adjust to their rapidly changing world and to a new little human whose survival depends on them. They often feel inadequate because they are not quite sure what they are supposed to do in this new role, and having a baby can be a very challenging and isolating experience. Some parents experience anxiety and depression as well as difficulty bonding with their baby.
After completing a 3 year training program in parent-infant psychoanalytic psychotherapy and studying with some of the most prominent clinicians in the field of infant research, I have developed a unique way of working with parent-baby dyads, providing short-term treatment for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PDMAs).
Having a baby can be a beautiful experience and yet stressful and isolating. Seeking help might be difficult for fear of being judged, but rather than thinking about what is wrong, therapy can help understand experiences in a different way, improve the connection between parent and baby, and prevent negative effects on the baby's development.
