About
In psychotherapy, we work together to understand the meaning of your symptoms and the sources of your pain. The therapeutic process is in large part a careful encounter with the past in the hope of getting beyond what happened to you and discovering who you are apart from your history. It also includes the exploration of your beliefs, emotions, protective strategies, recurring patterns, and relationship dynamics. From a stance of compassion and curiosity, we put words to your experience and what has been unsayable before.
We articulate a story about who you are and what happened to you, but we also listen. We listen in order to notice what was there all along, but was obscured by projections, adaptations, painful emotions, other people’s opinions, psychological inheritance from your caregivers, and universal themes that endlessly course through our life.
Psychodynamic, Jungian, existential, IFS, and AEDP approaches give me a framework for listening and making sense of what I hear. These methods help me guide my clients as they dare to break free from their history and gain courage to realize their deepest longings for meaning, love, belonging, peace, and a sense of comfort in their own skin.
