You've achieved a lot in your life, and at a high level and fast pace, but yet today you're facing trauma, grief, addiction or interpersonal conflict that you just can't seem to shake - and you are brave enough to ask for help. I believe your body, mind, and relationships want to heal from grief, trauma, addiction, and conflict - you and your relationships just need a confidential, brave space in which to do that. I use techniques drawn from addiction treatment, EMDR, and trauma therapy, as well as couples therapy (Gottman Method), to help you achieve your goal of healing. I also welcome your feedback to ensure I'm helping you.

"People only seriously consider change when they feel accepted for exactly who they are" -Carl Rogers I believe that if a person is given the appropriate environment and support they can become their best self. Together we can take a look inward and work toward developing and unlocking the best you. For years we often hold ourselves prisoner, allow me the privilege to assist with developing personal insight into past traumas and future successes. By developing the capacity to live in the moment, we tap into our 5 senses and allow ourselves to truly live in the moment free of our past or future.

If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, substance use, or the lingering effects of trauma, you are not alone. We all face stress and uncertainty and sometimes our usual coping mechanisms just aren't enough. In counseling, you will have the space to freely process your thoughts and feelings while working on new skills that can help you improve your mental health and relationships. As a therapist, I take a collaborative and person-centered approach designed to empower you to reach your goals. I also work from a multicultural, anti-racist, neurodiverse and LGBTQIA+ affirmative framework with my clients.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
