Accepting clients Apr 2024. Without judgment, I help clients overcome addictions to alcohol, weed, sex, food, and hard drugs by helping them face the very difficult triggers behind the addictions itself (such as unaddressed depression, trauma, and self esteem, etc; I particularly work with sexual addictions). This approach can be very emotionally difficult, so I recommend only clients who are ready for major life changes apply.

Are you suffering from crippling depression or anxiety? Are you going through a major life transition like changing careers, divorce, or other loss? Maybe you're battling habitual patterns that keep getting in your way no matter how many times you've tried to change things on your own. We believe that therapy can provide you with the means to face the hardest of life's challenges. Having a space to be heard and learning to better understand your problems can be the key that helps you to move forward. It provides a new perspective, as well as tools to better manage problems well after therapy is complete.

I began private practice in 1986 but have counseled troubled families since 1979. My clients include struggling college students, couples in conflict, families in disarray, substance abusers, employers worried about an employee, seniors who lost a spouse or adjusting to aging, daughters in conflicts with their mothers, women in violent relationships. I use writing for wellness. I have created a 6-week intensive writing course to guide clients through PTSD and other stressors. I have taught this course online around the world and in sessions. Go to: Amazon.com for all my books.

Change is inevitable. So what happens when the consequences of the change are so negative they severely impact our lives? We sometimes feel stuck, unsure of what direction to proceed. In my practice, WalkinTalkinTherapy, I provide an avenue to address these changes by combining the simplicity of walking outdoors with talk therapy. Advocates of the combined approach say that being active during the session helps patients relax and open up - scientists have long known that a workout can temporarily boost serotonin levels and improve mood, the latest research shows that exercise can have a deeper and more lasting effect.

I specialize in working with first responders and veterans. I have extensive experience working with those experiencing anger, depression, anxiety, trauma, and addictions. I am a US Navy veteran and retired law enforcement. I don't judge and nothing you say will shock me. My biggest strength is authenticity and loyalty. Being a first responder and/or a veteran breeds a sense of self-reliance and the mindset of being able to take care of anything thrown at us. You're mental health is no exception. You've got this.

Hi and welcome to my page, I'm so glad you are here! My name Maritza Linebaugh and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in trauma, depression, anxiety, life transition, attachment and grief. I love what I do! I connect well with my clients, and I particularly enjoy working with individuals struggling to make the transition from adolescence to adulthood - no matter the age. This is often a challenging time during which counseling can help assess expectations and establish boundaries for yourself and with others. I also connect well with individuals working in high tech that are transitioning in various areas of their lives. I am happy to consult with you and answer any questions you may have about the counseling process.

It can be very frustrating to be misunderstood by your spouse or your partner. You probably have a hard time communicating with each other. You probably find yourselves fighting about seemingly minor issues. You might be hurting and even feel a great deal of anger and resentment. You tried hard to fix the situation yourself or even hoped it would go away but you always seem to end up fighting again. You may even feel defeated because of the frequent arguing and worried about the future of your relationship. You know its time to get some help.

I have developed expertise in working with a vast array of problems. Resulting from many years of experience in workplace, academic, healthcare and private practice settings I am focusing on contemporary issues such as: Marital/Relationship Problems; Computer/Internet Problem Behaviors; Stepfamilies; & Parents of Adult Children Who Won't Grow Up. I prefer to do a thorough assessment and make recommendations for the best help and resources available. I believe that my clients are quite resiliant and I enjoy helping them graduate from therapy. Although, it has been my experience that my clients return from time to time.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
