Therapy is an act of strength, hope, and resiliency. Even the happiest and most well-adjusted people may encounter problems resulting from unexpected life challenges and demands. My goal is to work in collaboration and partnership with my clients to bring about positive changes, growth, and healing from past painful events. I have 15 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist. I received both my Master's degree and Continued Advanced Graduate Study Degree in Counseling Psychology from Cambridge College. I am also certified as a cognitive behavioral therapist from Boston University School of Social Work.

Prior to becoming a licensed professional counselor I worked in a number of related counseling areas. Our histories create in us the skills to manage or mismanage; to be brave or be fearful; to trust and mistrust and to know when to love or love till it hurts. I find myself constantly inspired by those who choose to take the steps necessary in pursuit of their purest authenticity and the creation of a life they love. I believe everybody has the ability to heal from trauma and experience growth from difficult life experiences. Difficult life experiences – whether recent or from years ago – often impact us relationally, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, phobias, grief, addiction, attachment related issues, and work-related stress do not have to control your life. Our work together will help you reconnect to your true self in order to live a more full and authentic life. I utilize various therapeutic modalities to meet the needs and goals of each individual client.

A cornerstone is the foundational stone to which all other stones are secured. For many of us our experiences, choices, and struggles can often be traced back to our original cornerstone. That foundational stone which was set for us, and not by us. My counseling practice incorporates positive cognitive and behavioral life tools to uniquely address, strengthen and rebuild your foundation, your cornerstone. Susan Jillson is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) who has 7 years of experience in the mental health field. Susan has always had a passion for serving others and decided to return to school after having children of her own to pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW). After graduating from Fordham University, she became a counselor in a residential program where she worked with clients who were struggling with a myriad of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance abuse.

My ideal client is one who is a lifelong learner. He or she explores the world with curiosity and humor seeking to make that difference in life which helps him or her turn difficult corners and experience satisfaction. Satisfaction can best be achieved through collaborating with another to discover what ultimately in matters in life and how best achieve it. Transitions may be difficult but not impossible.
