The professionals at The Counseling Center of Maryland use a variety of techniques to help improve the quality of life for individuals, couples, groups, and families. Through our strength-based and collaborative approach, we offer new insights that enable our clients to see things from different perspectives. We provide treatment and counseling for anxiety, depression, grief, emotional regulation issues, self-esteem, relationship concerns, and parenting. Through active and evidence based strategies we help empower our clients to make choices that evoke positive changes in their lives. Together, we will look at feelings, thoughts and behaviors as vehicles to affirmative changes.
Our clinicians use techniques from empirically proven interventions including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), gottman therapy, cyclical psychodynamics, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and others.

The Counseling Center of Maryland's Groups

DBT Groups

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): a highly specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) designed to help people with difficulties managing their emotions. In group, clients learn skills for better management of emotions, relationships, distress and focusing on the present moment. In conjunction with the group, clients in DBT attend once weekly individual therapy that is focused on applying the skills to their particular problems and goals. If a client has an existing individual therapist, the client would continue with their existing therapist, and we would collaborate on the skills.

Process Groups

The primary function of process groups is the improvement of relationships. The group becomes a microcosm of each members outside life as they relate to others. Members have a safe environment in which they can learn skills, practice those skills, and receive feedback. Individual group members gain new insight into understanding one's own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors by looking at relationship patterns both inside and outside the group.

Unlocking the Accomplishment

Unlocking the accomplishment is a hybrid DBT/Process group is for those individuals that would benefit from some DBT tools with a lower level of care. DBT (and CBT) tools are presented systematically and in the context of a process group. This groups would benefit individuals addressing relational issues, anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, anger, and a variety of other issues.
