I believe in an eclectic and individualized approach to helping folks achieve their unique goals and objectives, and to cultivate an optimal quality of life. I've worked with people who have experienced breast cancer, those recovering from complex post-traumatic stress disorder, individuals who’ve experienced intimate partner violence, people struggling with or recovering from alcohol use disorder, as well as those managing day-to-day anxieties and periods of depression. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I've helped my peers and allies explore identities, navigate relationships, etc.

I enjoy being able to assist those who are in need of finding a way out of the darkness. Also, my practice focuses on the study of substance abuse/addiction counseling. I have experience working with children and geriatric populations. I think that telehealth and online therapy are very powerful tools that we have to bring our support to more people regardless of whether they are near or far.

We thrive from emotional connections and sometimes those connections become strained by misunderstandings or disconnected through loss and we are left feeling distraught. Learn to develop effective communication skills, embrace grief, identify ways to cope, build trusting relationships with your significant other and those you care about. After a painful relationship sometimes we become unsure of the next step. Want someone to understand painful past experiences, anxiety, depression or indecision and how this gets in the way of a life you want to live? Take a deep breath, take the next step and call. No need to wait any longer.

I specialize in working with individuals and their families finding difficulty accessing and navigating early recovery. Based on your specific needs, I help identify and execute the most effective intervention strategy. We intervene, educate and coach in a loving and caring manner. Having performed over 900 interventions, I have seen the devastation that Substance Use Disorder has done to families first hand. We can change the course your loved one's addiction has taken them. I work at Recovery Centers of America as an interventionist, family change agent, and an advocate for recovery.

My caseload is full of dynamic and wonderful clients who seek to change the way they relate to themselves, their life circumstances, and their relationships. I have a particular interest working with recovering alcoholics actively working their 12-step program but are "just feeling stuck". In addition, I especially enjoy supporting women seeking to be authentic to themselves and those around them. Together, we will identify your goals and I will support you in pursuing your personal growth, finding your own answers and balance, and identifying and resolving how your past may be unconsciously impacting your day-to-day life.

"There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn't"-- John Green. Whether you don't know how to process trauma you have experienced, are so overwhelmed it is impacting your daily life or maybe you are struggling with an internal battle daily. You matter, you have a voice and I am here to listen. Sometimes our journey can get rough and it seems like a lot to bear. Then, at our lowest point, God sends us people to help us along the way.

I believe that everyone can get stuck or lost. Sometimes we can get unstuck by connecting with someone who is compassionate, non-judgmental and objective. I have spent over 25 years in behavioral health, helping people discover and become their "best" and healthy selves. Present problems, past hurts or even diagnoses don't have to take over our lives. Problems can be solved, hurts transformed, diagnoses understood and skills can be learned. A wise person once told me, "As long as you are alive, there is hope." I believe that and offer you the opportunity to find a new way.

I’d like to introduce you to something called your Autonomous Healing Center. It’s the part of you that knows there’s more to life than whatever you're dealing with now—struggling with food, body image, overwhelming feelings that never seem to go away, or a life that’s “just okay”, but isn't really doing it for you. For some of us, the Autonomous Healing Center speaks very quietly or in ways we don’t quite understand. However, it’s also the part that influenced your decision to start looking for a therapist today. So, here’s some good news: you’re already connected with the part of you that knows how to heal. Cool, huh?

I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive atmosphere for clients. I use a holistic and collaborative approach, recognizing that it can be difficult to process painful emotions alone. I draw from Psychodynamic, Attachment-based, Solution-Focused, and Existential approaches. Together, we'll identify the patterns that hold you back and develop practical tools to navigate life's stressors. We'll also work toward dismantling the barriers of self-doubt and crippling anxiety, nurturing your authentic sense of self.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
