Life is full of challenging events, decisions, and transitions. Going to therapy does not make a person “less than,” or indicate you are incapable of dealing with challenges/issues on your own. Beginning therapy is a sign of courage and awareness that you believe positive change in your life can be achieved. I work with adult individuals helping them cope with and work through a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, drug/alcohol use, stress reduction, anger, life transitions, coping with uncertainty, increasing self-esteem, as well as developing and maintaining healthy relationships.

My caseload is full of dynamic and wonderful clients who seek to change the way they relate to themselves, their life circumstances, and their relationships. I have a particular interest working with recovering alcoholics actively working their 12-step program but are "just feeling stuck". In addition, I especially enjoy supporting women seeking to be authentic to themselves and those around them. Together, we will identify your goals and I will support you in pursuing your personal growth, finding your own answers and balance, and identifying and resolving how your past may be unconsciously impacting your day-to-day life.

Most of us are stuck in our heads, struggling with competing ideologies, worldviews, and internalized (usually critical) voices from our past. Using empathetic active listening and body-focused inquiry, I will work with you to create safe space within which to explore who you are and replace confusion with clarity---a body-based "felt sense" of what's true that becomes an increasingly reliable guide for authentic action.

I believe in providing a safe, judgment-free, and supportive space for my clients. From a cognitive-behavioral approach, I aim to balance symptom relief in the present while managing life’s challenges and uncertainties. I value a strong therapeutic relationship as a channel for understanding and a way to foster open and honest dialogue. My therapy style can be described as compassionate, direct, solution-oriented, and mind-body-focused. Together, we will create a personalized and flexible plan to create a more authentic and fulfilling life.

I practice a relational form of psychodynamic/humanistic therapy that views the therapeutic relationship as central to the therapeutic process. However. I also incorporate therapeutic tools from difrrent pychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, and psychoanalysis . I have had great success working with people who have had difficulty connecting to therapists in the past and am noted for working with high-conflict couples. I enjoy working with couples utilizing. among other modalities, the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, which aren't necessarily exclusive to each other

Often personal and professional relationships get complicated and difficult. This results from our patterns of behavior and how we experience the world. Also true, is that we do not easily see what blocks us from having a more fulfilling and meaningful life. The psychotherapy I offer, allows for better understanding of reflexive and often no-longer-helpful reactions and responses which can cause anxious or depressed moods, conflicted relationships and decreased satisfaction in personal and professional relationships. By making a commitment to your well being and by using your therapy, your life can become richer and more meaningful.

You bring a desire to create change in your life and the willingness to explore how this may be possible. I am flexible on what you pay but not on the need for you to be committed to your own growth. Struggling with feeling stuck? Finding yourself repeating old patterns? Wanting to create change in your life? Then by all means give a call.

Are you suffering from the effects of PTSD, anxiety, depression, sudden loss, and/or chronic pain? If so body-oriented psychotherapy may help facilitate your recovery. By working to address the root causes of nervous system imbalance, a body-psychotherapy approach can empower you with tools and skills to re-negotiate and resolve difficult and traumatic experiences. My approach in therapy is client-centered and my work is just to facilitate and provide the optimal conditions for healing to take place. I also hope to impart knowledge and skills for people to work with themselves effectively outside of therapy.

If Self Help advice and strategies had been enough you probably would not be looking for a therapist. Those strategies make sense but are often very difficult to implement. The human psyche is a complicated mechanism which tends to resist change. Breaking problematic patterns of behavior and interactions with family, friends and in work environments is harder than it looks. Past history , fears and anxieties often contribute to making it difficult to make positive changes in ones life. My work with you includes examination of factors making it difficult to change and strengthening your resolve to make beneficial changes.

I work with adults struggling with relationship issues, addiction, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Many of my clients are high performers who have become successful despite a difficult childhood. If you are curious how therapy can help you reduce your suffering, improve your relationships, and help you heal from past traumas, I encourage you to reach out for a free consultation. I use elements of EMDR therapy in my approach. I am kink allied and sex positive. I invite you to come as you are. I will respect, support, and encourage you during our time in therapy.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
